Big Mistake!!!

Ok, you are going to get a Hawk. I feel for you. Good luck trying to get parts for it if you need them. You wont be able to find any. That means you will be forced to deal with Heli-World... You will soon learn what every one is talking about. Good luck!

Oh, by the way. After you are completely frustrated with the poor quality of the Hawk and the total lack of parts support and the very poor (I mean ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE) customer "service" from Heli-World let me be the first to stand up and say-

I TOLD YOU SO!

buying a hawk
I hate to say this but I bought a hawk.
It was on consignment at the hobby shop for $200
with engine and gyro and was not put together fully yet.
After 3 flight I sold it.
I sold the hawk for $150 and sold the engine for $75 on ebay
I still have the gyro.
NO MORE HAWK
I feel much better now.

Parts???

Don't believe everything you hear.I talk with the people at Century almost every week and they all seem very nice. Now as far as parts go i almost never have any trouble getting them.If you do end up needing something that's not in stock at heliworld just shoot me an email. I always have some here, not all but some......

I've never had a problem with Century's service, either, and my Raven 50 flys great. Keep in mind that Rick's stocks and sells Century kits and parts, so if you want you never even have to deal with Heli-World.

The Hawk IV isn't the greatest machine out there, but it is still a very good heli and it will serve a person well as a beginner/intermeadiate heli. It's also a very good value.

If you buy the Hawk IV or the Raptor you'll enjoy both, but you'll get more with the Hawk.

Mike

BTW: I'm not a dealer or field rep, I just like my heli.

Heli Choice

Good choice, you will be glad you did. I have always had good service from Heli-World whenever my local shops did not have something, even things not related to the Century product.

But you can also get Century product and Hawk parts from Ron Lund at Rick's, www.ronlund.com one of the best and most revered dealers on the net.

Crash - You judge a product from a your experience with a used consigned unit from a shop? Hmmmm......

Hawk???

Your getting a Hawk? Your crazy!

There has been so many bad stories about the Hawk and Century that I cant imagine anyone buying one. I understand it is almost impossible to get parts for them. No hobby shop I have ever been too carries parts fro them. On the other hand, every hobby shop has Raptor parts.

I have never owned a Hawk, but I have ordered from Heli World. My order arrived and one item was missing a small part. I called Heli World and they said it was shipped complete in a sealed bad. I told them it was not a sealed bad and the part was not there (and I went through every shred of paper in that box - it wasnt in there). The guy I talked to on the phone accused me of trying to rip them off and said I was just trying to get free parts.

I told him I was sending the stuff back. A few weeks later I got a letter saying that the returned items were accepted however one item was incomplete, missing parts (yes, the same item that they sent me that was missing parts in the first place). And since it was missing the parts they could not give me a refund for that item. They did offer to send that item back to me (still with the missing parts) it back to me if I paid another $6 shipping... I just threw the letter away and cut my losses at $17.

I will never deal with them again and I would advise every one to stay away from them as well.

Hawk IV is great bang for the buck!

Hi,

The Hawk IV is a fine choice. You will not regret it. None of the negatives highlighted by others are really worth considering. Indeed, things like 'you cant get parts for it, but you can get parts for the raptor' actually moved me TOWARD buying a hawk two years ago...

My local hobby store ONLY carries parts for the Hawk. There are no Raptor parts available locally.

I bought a Hawk III and used it for FAI/3D practise. I sold it and moved up to a Falcon SE because the latter is more durable (more BB), and because the Falcon flies closer to a 60 (actually better than some). I have not been dissapointed by either in terms of: parts cost/availability/fit, overall durabilty, and flight performance.

There are no design flaws with the Hawk, especially the IV. I have seen few (if any) posts regarding problems that people have w. this heli.
The same cannot be said about the Raptor; woof and poof and clutch problems come to mind.

Certainly purchasing a Hawk I or II will give you a heli that is not as refined as the III or IV. Thus, people saying that they were not satisfied with the purchase of a used hawk will not apply to you. Be careful about people's opinions re. the Hawk if they've never owned/flown one.

All in all, there are many plastic fantastic helis available today. Although the Hawk may have been overlooked by many people 'jumping on the Raptor bandwagon' in the past, the version IV is catching much deserved attention. There will be issues with all helis, but there seem to be fewer with the Hawk - especially when the IV is considered.

Good luck to you. I am confident that you will enjoy your Hawk IV because it will give you a trouble free and inexpensive way to learn about RC helis.

Cheers,
Steve Reuss

Against my better instincts, I'm posting here again...

If you choose to get the Century over the TT, just pray you never need to do any engine or clutch maintenance, or anything which would require you to gain access to the engine. Maybe I'm the idiot, but I couldn't do it without dissasembling most of the heli first. Same goes for the fuel tank. I think that's just bad design.

Even so, it is a good "initiation" heli for a newbie like me.

I wasn't going to say anything...

..BUT, I have to come to the defense of the Hawk IV. Notice I said Hawk IV, Not Hawk III or Hawk II or Hawk. Yes, the earlier versions has some "issues", that's why it's been revised. Can anybody name a product that hasn't been changed over its lifetime? Weaknesses were found and addressed in the newer versions.

The people who say you should not buy a Hawk IV because they bought a Hawk III second hand and didn't like it are talking out of their a**. What do they know? It's like telling somebody who is going to buy a new Honda Accord not to because you had one in 1978 and it was cramped inside and the A/C didn't work.

I've had no trouble whatsoever finding parts for my Hawk IV. Which, by the way, is an example of great engineering. Yes, there are comprimises, but I expect that in a $220 heli. If I want a no-comprimises helicopter, I'll buy a Vario Extreme. Of course, $220 probably wouldn't even buy the canopy!

Lol

If it is 220.00 heli , does it mean to bring the engine or fuel tank out , you have to rip the heli apart again..? Donot know what to say .

It is piss easy. You just remove the bottom frame which contains the engine and fuel tank.
