dont get me wrong when i mention retro because the machine is in grat shape. i know this is going to be hard to believe but i can interpolate bores within .0005 with a good carbide endmill. not bad for a 1981 machine. i also have another ooya that was given to me just to make it gone. it was the next step up from mine. i kept everything but the main castings for the base and column. because alot of it will fit my machine. the retro would just be to gain a newer pc based control then i wouldnt be married to fanuc when it came to parts. but i dont think it cost effective at this point or maybe ever since it will still be a 1981 machine.

The iron usually lasts longer than the control.

i have a post running under the raptor section. topic is "homebrew raptor parts" maybe you will find it interesting. i have been working on some other parts as well as the frames. which are in the final stages now. all thats left is to make them in CF or maybe G10/G11. i do have to finish the fan housing as well as get the landing gear mounted. otherwise they are complete now. including fixing the motor mount which was very ugly at best.

i agree with you as far as it doesnt hurt to ask. but you also have to realize that many people wont share their work for the simple reason they dont want sombody to steal it and start producing them to make money. and when this happens the creator that put all the time and effort into the deisign usually doesnt see a dime. this is the case with most people that deisgn stuff for themselves and really dont have the desire or facilities to produce them on the scale needed for commercial sale. if someone were to request a partnership with rights to produce them then maybe more individuals would be willing to share their ideas. becasue then they would get a piece of the proverbial pie.

thats my 2 cent anyway

Craig,

Good work on the Rappy. I know what is involved. I'm getting ready to machine some pitch arms for an Eagle and it's just a matter of planning out what I want to do.

You may be able to get a fan shroud from Min Air off of an X-Cell 30/46. It would be easier than making one.
