Any recommendations on a very good DC field charger? I have a Hangar9 Double Vision currently but I am not overly happy with it.

Thanks

SuperNova.

1 to 20 cells
NiCad
NiMH
Pb
10 programmable memories for manual modes
Fully automatic for NiCad (including condition check)
Charge/Discharge

Cost about £70GBP (which I guess is about $130USD)

It's great

Thanks, I will take a look at it. Can it peak Tx packs inside the transmitter?

Yes, the SuperNova can peak TX packs inside the transmitter.
Usually you can't cycle your TX pack inside the transmitter (unless you short a diode within the TX). Not a big deal.

Overall the SuperNova is good charger, very flexible. I use it both at home with a 13.8v DC power supply and at the field. What I like is that I don't need any extra charger, that one covers all my needs :
- NiCad & NiMh (cycle, peak)
- from 1 to 25 cells
- also charges the 12v Pb battery

Read the good review at The R/C Battery Clinic

I like the simplicity of the Siriuis. I use the optional car adapter and charge my first helo and transmitter on the way to the field.

Super Nova Charger

Ricks has them for about $125 not a bad deal. When they first came out they were around $140. Rick's is even cheaper than FMA direct if I remember correctly.

If I may ask why are you unhappy with your double vision charger?
I am looking for a field charger and the dbl vision or the hangar perfect peak looked like good choices.
The super nova is out because it only does one pack at a time (tx or rx, not both).
Please let me know what pblms you had with yours so I don't make the same mistake.
Thanks

cnsheets,

Thansk for the info about the sirius, I had read about it. Apparently some say it only charges to 80% pack capacity (which is why it never overcharges a pack). I personally don't know. The double vision is of unknown quality but about 1/2 the price of the sirius. I was just wondering if he had any specific gripes with the double vision since he mentioned it and it was one of the ones I had looked at for a field charger.

I'm thinking about the shluze i-6330 (or whatever their new one for $169 is). Seems like the best of all worlds (does multiple packs at once, charge/discharge , all types of batteries, ac/dc, etc.)

I read the posts about super fancypants chargers like the alpha 4 which you have to get on a year long + waiting list, and one other one that was $400! holy cow

I find it funny that at rcbatteryclinic.com red the battery guru pretty much says a timer and the charger that comes free with your radio is a great system

that's what I've been using, and it works fine but I'd like to have a quick field charger too, just in case I don't crash within the 1st hour

Field charger

I also would recomend the Sirius charger for a FIELD charger for the TX & Rx as you specified . It is a great reliable charger for the price .http://www.peak-charge.com/
