hey
thinking about trying my hand at electrics.would like to hear from some owners. Not looking for max power, longevity 3d etc.Just looking to have fun during the week alittle closer to home than my field.been watching alot of auctions and they seem to have about .30cents on the dollar resale.I see alot of upgraded eco 8 being sold with new or very low usage. Is it a disappointing ship?Ikarus's website has very crappy video's the thing looks terrible to fly.Do people just expect to much what gives. All i want is 10 to 15 mins enjoyable flying at ball field.I have searched and dont really see many problems mentioned.does the 8 to 16 upgrade make a better flier? All opinions are appreciated
Thanks

The eco 8 is fun to fly but it isnt too much of a easy to tune heli. The stock parts arent fun to fiddle around with as they arent the best of all parts. You will need a few essential upgrades such as the autorotation hub, and the tail servo mount as well as the tail push rod. (these three upgrades are the best upgrades if trying to fly as stock as possible). The snake also works but its too much friction and has a lot of slop. You should get a brushless motor if you want to fly this with soemthing other than 8 cell packs (nothing lower) such as lipoly or 10-12 cell. Then theres the brushless controllers such as the Pheonix 45 from CC.

Overall there are better to chose helis as I have been frustrated for the first two months figuring it out how to set it up and fly but you shouldnt have a problem. Also the aluminum swash is something you should look into. A crashw ith an eco 8 will cost more than a crash off a raptor (depending on crash) and you are limited to about half a dozen stores for best priced parts. I suggest you rethink about getting it but then again, this is just my $0.02. Many will dissagree or agree.

Hell I love my eco 8 but its a pain in the ass to see it crash. Take a look at some pics at my gallery.

I think my Eco 8 is a great machine after I have upgraded it. You do need some upgrade to make it fly good. The tail slider, frame stiffener, CCPM setup, and a good brushless motor. I am using the Hacker one.

I suggest you take the tail boom and the main's off and get the stock one and use them first before you reck those expensive parts. The carbon side frames wont last a hard crash but is a very good upgrade as it saves weight. Try not to land it too hard or do anything to cause it to crack. It can be repaired but wont be as strong as it was before. You should fly nicely with that brushless motor. Plenty of power for minor aerobatics (on 10-12 cells).

I suggest you get the hs-85 for cyclic and hs-81 for tail control (if you dont know yet).

How much did you pay for this deal? Sounds expensive.

Yes I was planning on replacing some of the parts with stock ones while I learn. Is 8 cells enough while learning to fly?

What special tools will I need? I have seen some posts about a pitch guage?

I traded a really nice TXT truck with some really good electronics for it.

You want a pitch guage that is universal as I am sure this isnt going to be your only helicopter. Also, 8 cell on brushless is good but isnt recomended. I suggest you get a 10 cell pack to begin with and be accustomed to that. Get the 3300 zapped packs which should give you 10minutes + flight times. Also, please be aware that 10 cell will give you eco 8 about 1800 rpm depending on the pinion he supplied you.

DjLock, which brushless do you use? It looks like a HETrc micro typhoon 15, and that a cheap motor . Which controller do you use with it?

I have had my Eco for a year and a half. I use a Mega 22/20/3H and a Phoenix 35 ESC. Seems to be a good setup. Alot of guys are going to the Ikarus H8 motor and I havent heard anything bad about that one either. With a little bit of upgrade this machine will fly fine. I used the sport brushed motor for the first 3 months that I flew. It was fine for waht I was doing but I needed the better motor for good smooth 3D manuevers. Just my .02

I'm sure I'll get flamed, but don't waste your money on an Eco8. I had one, it flew ok on it's first 3 flight, then it self destruced on it's fourth. They are very fragile, and you need to add a good anmount of extras to stiffen the frame, etc. I then got a Logo 10, I regret not getting it in the first place, it would have been cheaper in the log run.

If you do buy the Eco, PM me, as I have a lot of aluminum extras, B50-15L, Smile 40-6-18 ESC, etc. for sale (they survived )

Laurens, I run the H8 outrunner from Ikarus. It was introduced to the market last year, was my christmas gift. Im running it with the kontronik beat 40-6-12 controller. Smoothest starting I have ever seen. Just flick the switch and watch it slowly ramp up to speed. I suggest you use 10 cell packs for optimum performance with the brushless. I long for the day i get the gp 10 cell packs.

Also timbo, I do agree with you. The eco 8 should be for people who has heli experience and want some leisure time in the backyard for some few enjoying minutes with no loud engines, and smoke. It is fragile compared to most helis but with the right upgrades, it could be pretty durable. Most I break in my set up is the landing gear, boom, shafts, and blades if it is a bad one. The aluminum frames help a tremendous amount.

DJlock,
The outrunner looks exactly the same. I'll give it a try.

Timbo2k,
It's just for some hovering practice on the club, one or 2 flights. It's cheap and its good enough. If I want more then hovering I'll upgrade it.
