I remember hearing last year that either JR/Horrizon or somebody else was working on a graphical interface for the DataSafe where you could make adjustments on your computer and download it into your radio. Does anybody have any knowledge?

Datasafe

Rickc,

That is the JR Datasafe interface unit. It does not allow you to change your settings using your computer. Its purely a vehicle for storing setting on disc or harddrive. You still need to make your changes and view your setting on the TX.

It would be nice if it could be used to change settings and display them in color graphics. It would also be nice if they could be used to print out your settings.

Datasafe

Strega is correct. It is soley for the purpose of backing up your TX. I was under the same impression and when I received my 10X a month ago I found that you could only backup, not manipulate, your settings. I guess someone needs to email JR and let them know we need an App to perform this function.

That's correct, it is used only to back up not to modify. Sorry I misread the initial post.

You can email JR/Horizon till your blue in the
face, it's not going to change anything. They've
been promising such a capability 'in 18 months'
for the last 3 or 4 years. They're doing and going
to do nothing w/ the product. More of the 'we
don't think you need this capability' attitude.

They are not the manufacture of the DataSafe, this is done by an outside firm. I would like to see them upgrade the connector from the 25 pin to the 9 to keep everyone from having to buy an adaptor.

yea, I'm aware of that. Doesn't change anything.
If they wanted to pay Topper Inc to make an
editor or improved version, they would. Or,
just buy (which they probably already have the
rights to anyway) the code and give it to a
developer and do something w/ it.

It doesn't take 3+ years to write a measly editor.

I agree it would be a very handy program, someone is dragging their feet.

Perhaps they could simply open source (Free BSD license so it doesn't lock out commercial applications) their software to allow people to develop their own editor.

Or just document the protocol - how hard can it be, it's an RS232 interface isn't it (since someone mentioned 9/25 pin adapter)?

If someone wanted it bad enough they could just monitor the serial line during the data transfer and figure out the protocol. I don't have a JR radio so I am not motivated to do so - but I have to say when I was looking at radios I did get the impression that this was one of the capabilities of that system (editing on your pc).

Data Safe Problem

I cannot download from my transmitter to my PC. I have had this system a year now and never tryed it. I did download CY settings into my Vigor CS but that was putting a program in my transmitter. I am getting very frustrated. I do have the transmitter on transfer and all ports are plugged in. I get to the part where I name the model and after I type in my name the data safe say failed or something. I do have it on 10X. Anyone have an Idea????

Datasafe upgrade

I contacted Horizon recently and was told that the Datasafe Version 2 was available soon and to watch their site. The new version will not be compatible with the version currently in use. The sent me a small file (176kb) which replaces installation disk 2 and will upgrade the existing version to handle the digital trims for the JR 8103. If any one needs it let me know or contact Horizon directly.
