Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > 9ZWCII Owners - What would you change or add to your 9Z's?

Lets say for instance, Futaba asked for your input into the design of whatever radio they're going to replace the 9Z with. What would you like to see them add or change to the existing design/functionality?

Thanks,
Si

You've missed the point.

I don't know if or when Futaba will change the 9Z.

I was trying to get an idea of what new things would you like seen on your 9Z's or what things would you change?

An USB interface to a computer - unlimited model storage, and instant restoral after sending the TX in for repair.

Oh - and a modem so that you can check your email while at the field

A display that doesn't wash out in bright sun, and that can be read while wearing polarized sunnies.

A louder (or adjustable) beeper.

More channels, for scale model control functions. I have not run out yet, but I can see it happenning.

More memory. I have to use an 8U for my planks since I can't fit everything into the 9Z without multiple Campacs. I do know about the Ultrapac, but you still have to pull it out to switch banks.

A progressive air brake function that gradually moves the spoilers/flaps when the throttle is lowered (like the 8U) instead of flopping them out.

Ability to copy single CND menu items to other conditions instead of flipping switches until all the numbers match. I know you can copy conditions, but that's really only useful when you are starting with a new condition.

Trim switches on the side, or somewhere that can be reached with fingers while my thumbs are on the sticks. Or the old Micropro trim-set button, which transferred your current stick positions to the trims. You push the button, and the trims move gradually to the new settings, and the sticks move back to center as you keep the model flying in trim.

Ability to adjust a single, selectable mix or parameter while flying. You'd use this to set revo mix or swash rotation while flying, instead of landing, changing the setting, then trying again.

A backlit screen for nightflying would be good too.

maybe I missed something?

I haven't tried very hard, but the ability to change dual rates without having to change into a different flight mode.

for example, -20% expo when its windy, flip a switch to -40% expo when its calm. this would save alot of memory.

progressive airbrake

Hi phil,

You can do that with the 9Z just use the channel delay feature for your airbrake and mix it with the Throttle lever.

I would like to have a little more space between the E and F switch and G and H switch, I fly with my finger in between those switches and it´s a little tight.

Also I would like to have the ONLY thing I miss from my old JR10 SXII, the ability to select the poits you want in the curves and not to have to set every point to get a curve. In The JR you just select the points you want and the radio "fills" the others points for you.

What about a more intuitive programming!!
I 've got one and if you haven't been playing with the programs for a while, you'd better get the manual out!
Personally, I would go for the 9C now and discontinue the 9Z.

9Z future replacement

Hi

I would say :

-improved readability of the display
-mouse-like device to increment/decrement values faster (time saving)
-possibility to assign a dial to move vertically some points of a given curve ( to put a portion of the curve "into bracket" to help setting the hover point
- possibility to assign a dial to set the inclination of a given portion of curve around the hover point (hover point stored as a rotation center of the given curve portion > sets the pitch sensivity around the hov point)
- auto smoothing function for multipoint curves
-backlighted screen, possibility to turn it on and off (night fly)
-symetry function > when set , the first half of a curve could be copied as a mirror function (3D setup purpose)
-improved gimbals quality
-improved hardcase quality
-DSC/training connector that doesn't wears like the current DIN plug
-anti-perspirant foam pads on the sides on the hardcase
-securised switch or button to "freeze" the model during setup (better convenience than the CHD functon)

just my 2 cents

Condition Hold

Remy,

The quick way to do condition hold is to assign a throttle hold switch in all conditions.

One very nice feature of the 9Z is that the thottle hold flight condition is distinct from the throttle hold function. It's just that you normally have the hold function permantently engaged in the hold flight condition. Assign any switch other than your normal hold switch to the hold function in the other flight conditions.

The only downside is that you don't get the warning that the throttle stick is not at idle like you do when turn condition hold off. Once you've turned hold off and gone back into idle up once or twice you learn not to do it.

imasleeper,

Thanks for the tip.

Phil

My Thoughts

Here are some things I would like to see:

1. A much, much louder beeper. I can never hear mine.

2. Positive / Negative Shift Selectability. I would love to use some of the JR and Airtronics receivers I have laying around.

3. The ability to just plug in my Sirius Pro Charge (or my Accu-Cycle)for charging. I had to by-pass my blocking diod.

4. More channles, lets say 12.

5. Built-in software for dual motor drive units. I have a battle bot that uses a tank type drive. Software like the Tamiya DMD unit used in their 1/16 scale tanks would be perfect. I know, the 9Z is for aircraft, but if you plug in a 75MHz module, you are leagal for ground use. You would be surprised how many people are using the 9Z for battle bots.

6. A way to interface with my home computer. I would love to store model set-ups on my home computer. USB would be great.

7. Flash type memory. No need for an internal battery that will die and need to be replaced (and wiping out all our model memories).

8. NiMh batteries as standard.

I would most definitely want to see that top data line enlarged or even moved to the bottom of the screen.

Screen contrast in sun with sunglasses very bad, needs improvement.

Interface to laptop or home pc to store and edit data.

Option to not have to program even points on a curve. Let the cpu calc the even points but still allow even point programming if required.

Reduce the weight of the transmitter.

Mutli condition mixing. If switch A on and switch B on then mix active. Something like that.

How about a popup optical tach. That would be cool.

1. Easier programming. The 9C prooves that Futaba can make complicated programming a reality.

2. Ability to program my 401 gyro in the GYRO section. There is no excuse for this problem! The 9Z is new enough that it should have been programmed for the new heading hold gyros without using expo, etc.
