hhi has nice sceadu canopies for a reasonable price. i believe that it is the same canopy that you would get ftom heliproz and zooms for more money. i bought one from heliproz and one from hhi and they are the same.

The Zoom’s canopy is very different and is also prepped now (ready for paint) with seams and pinholes filled. The others are flimsy. The Zoom’s canopy has rolled rear edges like the original, which makes them more rigid. That is important because without rigidity, the paint ends up cracking as do the holes where the grommet are located.

Scott,

My apologies. If that is the case then I will order a canopy form zooms. Scott is correct when he says that the canopy cracks and is flimsy.

Most of the other canopies are only one layer thick. This is why they have a tendency to flex and crack. The Zoom's is 2 layers of glass thick and we use a glass impregnated filler around mount points and around the rolled back edges for added strength. This is the way all of our canopies are made. They hold up much better than the others which is an important thing. We all take our canopies off on a regular basis and that will quickly result in brazed paint and a cracked looking canopy when they are made too thin.

Good Paint is great, but it is what's underneath the paint that counts when it comes to longevity.

Have you guys ever considered adding color to the gelcoat

Kino,
The problem with adding color to the gel coat is that the canopies are made in 2 peices and the seam needs to be filled as do minor pinholes.. The key to a good paint job is the prep work and while our canopies have a high quality finish, as with anything they are short of perfect. Also, paint does not adhere well to gel coating. As such, a good primer is suggested for optimum finish which would make a colored gel coat a waste. Paint applied to gel coat only, will result in cracking and lifiting of the paint. These days, most people do not like having to do prep work. That is why we are shipping canopies that are prepped and ready for paint. We primer, fill the seams and pinholes and apply more primer. That is how we prep all of our canopies including the ones we paint.

All of the other canopies on the market require a fair amount of work before they are ready for paint.

Best Regards,
Scott

I've had 1 minor and 1 medium incidents contacting the ground with my Zooms canopy and although it has some damage it's still looks ok and is flyable. They are tough and worth the extra $10 over others.

This was after the Minor one. Haven't got pics since the medium one!

Nolan,
Glad to hear your canopy is in one piece after the crashes.

We made some Kevlar proto types and ran one over..
Actually Todd Bennet put it under my car when I was leaving from flying with him one day. I was backing up and I heard a crunch.. It was a big joke before hand as I kept saying that I bet we could run it over and it would still pop back out. By that point the canopy had already been punched, stepped on and just really beaten. Well, I got out of the car wondering what I had ran over as I forget that I had left it (Todd and the gang were laughing), Under my tire was a Kevlar X-Cell pancake.. I put my hand in it and (to their amazement and mine) it popped right back into shape. The Kevlar was a real nightmare to work with and virtually impossible to cut. It just frays when you hit it with a dremel so the Kevlar line was abandoned, as the paint would still get trashed if it was crashed and ultimately not worth the added expense though it would have made a really neat parts carrier after being lawn darted.

Check this out:

I still would like to make some limited edition ones (though I would be shot for even suggesting it) and crash my Raptor nose first just to prove their strength. Boy would that be fun. I know the canopy would survive.
