What's up fellas? Just bought a Raptor 30 about a month ago, and just finally got everything together.. Went to fly it this past weekend, but ended up snapping both elevator control arms before takeoff.. Back to the ol' drawing board!

I ordered both pieces, and they will be here for the weekend so I can attempt the first flight.

Here's my Raptor:

Anyone else in CT?

Thansk for the compliments guys! fast board!

Doug - what I did was wash the body first with liquid dawn to get it clean.. I then used some 300 grit sandpaper to lightly sand it and rough it up.

Then I wiped it down, sprayed like 3 coats of clear coat. Let that all dry. Then I spraypainted it all yellow, like 3 coats. Let that dry completely. Then I sprayed the orange parts, and kinda faded them into the yellow. Did about 3 coats of that also. Finished it off with 3-4 more clear coats, and voila!

Seems to hold fairly well. I hit it around a bit, and it didn't flake off. We'll see how it holds up in real world conditions.

Hahaa.. oh.. My bad...

Breaking the links.. I'm not really sure exactly what made them break. When I got to the field, everything was good..
Some veterans helped me tune it a bit while it was on the ground. We took off a few links, and put them back on a few times while fixing the lengths of a few linkages.
I believe taking them off, and putting them back on a few times just made them snap.

Someone had said that that is a known problem with the R30 - the weak rings on the elevator links.. I don't know..

Be careful with the second set, they only go on in one direction. Putting 'em on backwards breaks 'em everytime.

Links

My elevator links broke before my first flight. I assume I put them on backwards. I looked at the manual but it did not say anything about front or back and the link did not have any markings either.

What paint and clear did you use? I am impressed with how shiny it is.

I looked at mine closely when I assembled it and you can see that one side is cupped more than the other. You also might be able to hold them up against the ball and see the side that sits lower under slight pressure, thats the side you want to use.

so when you say they broke, I take it you mean they split (usually at the top edge) at the ball connection? It will cost you more to replace the stock A-arms (since you have to buy the whole pitch assy) than it will for you to buy a set of metal A-arms which use standard links. So upgrade to the metal A-arms from www.helihut.com for a paltry $10. I use the metal A-arms on all my R-30's, much better way to go and now is the time. While you are placing the order, buy the metal one piece tail hub ($6) and the metal oval links ($10) to spread the shipping cost ($10) a little better and catch up on those issues at the same time. Heck, go nuts and buy their split gear ($50) which is very nice and is better than the other unit available.

ctseaplane- What is RCCC? I'll be flying at Eisenhower park in Milford.

tetsuo1- I used "Testors" paint, and krylon clear coat.

Stet- Yep, that's right where they broke.. Damn.. I already went and ordered a set of stock ones 2 day air! I just wanted to be able to fly this weekend.. Will definately be upgrading soon thouhg..

Thanks for all the advice guys!

cool! Yeah, we must of met then. You must be the other guy with the Raptor then.. Can't remember your name. I was there this past weekend, and Chris & Andy helped me out a bit. I ordered the links I need, and they will be here tomorrow morning. So, Saturday I will hopefully have my first flight.. Can't wait.
