It looks like you can just slide it over the bar at bottom. Are you worried that it will slide side to side? You could put a small notch in the bar to hold it in the center.

I just got mine assembled today. Looks great! I still have a lot of work to do before it is flight ready. I think I will wait until I have a good "upgrade opportunity" before I pull it all apart.

The I.D. of the eyelet is to big for the aluminum tube that fits between the frame halves. I may turn a bushing on my laithe.

I just made a duel boom brace. I just cut down two carbon tubes and used some JB weld to hold them into the screw downs from another crashed boom support. Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Looks like a tight fit for two 4S2P's, anyone using the high voltage setup with the carbon frames. Are the packs fitting ok? TP lists the TP3800 packs as 3/4 inch tall a piece. The clearence between the mainshaft and the battery brace is 1 1/2 inches.

There is a new TP7600-4S4P pack. It's 10.75"x 1.75"x 1.15" and will have plenty of space between the frames. Here is the link to check them out. http://www.espritmodel.com/accesories_batteries.html

I'm running a high voltage setup, 8S2P or rather two 4S2P's.

Contact TP and ask them to make you a custom 8S2P pack using the 10C LiPo cells. You will have the high voltage you are looking for and it will be thin enough to fit inside the carbon frames. Just send them an e-mail and tell them what your looking for. info@thunderpower-batteries.com

They look great

does anyone know the difference in weight between these and the plastic frames?

I spoke to Jason at TP Patrick, he said they don't make the 8S2P's anymore for a reason, one being if you have a crash and damage a pack you can replace just 1/2 if needed. He also answered my question about the clearence issue in another post and said two 4S2P's will fit but the stock mainshaft has to be used and not the hardened shaft due the difference in lenghts they hang down. I would imagine novaman designed the carbon frames with the same amount of clearence for the cells as the stock frames. I don't have my stock frames anymore to measure the clearence for the packs. The carbon's will accept a pack 1.5 inches tall.

My two 4S2P's arrived today, they won't fit underneath the mainshaft without hitting. I had to cut the shrink off of one pack and move the wires towards the edges of the pack. Even then I had to cut a hole in the new shrink wrap I put back on for clearence. Novaman if your still following this thread, it would be great if you could stretch down the opening for the battery. A distance of 1.75'' between the bottom of tha mainshaft and the battery tray would be a big league move on your part. Many are starting to go to this HV setup. I'd buy another set of stretched frames from you.

i checked the dimensions on the packs and that would be a tight fit.
i am going with the same setup soon.
are the cells 18mm or the assembled pack?
if you cut both packs and move the wires will that fit?
can the top pack be moved forward to clear the main shaft or will it affect the cg?

if all else fails let me know i could modify a set of frames for you to get flying. i would have to cut another slit in the frame a little lower for the back tab on the battery support plate. cut the front tab off and make a new front landing gear support that is smaller in diameter.
i can give you a call if you want and see what we come up with.

With the two packs stacked on top of each other and wrapped tight with strapping tape to draw them together the tallest point is 39 mm. The wire cannot be moved to the sides of the packs or it will make them too wide. As they arrive the packs have the wire running right down the center, removing the shrink wrap and moving the wire towards the edges at least gave me clearance but only with a small circle of the heat shrink removed. The heat shrink bridges across the wires and hits the shaft. With the small circle of shrink removed I have about 3 mm of clearance.

I also tried moving the top pack forward. If you go forward enough to clear the main shaft the pack will either be touching the nose of the canopy or will at least make it very difficult to mount the canopy without trimming out the nose. The CG in my opinion is a bit tail heavy with the packs slid in until it stops at the tail servo. About an inch forward would make things better, but just trying to get the pack in and not to damage it during flight is my concern right now.

Your frames are excellent, but doing a small mod somehow would put them in even higher demand I would think, If pilots knew purchasing your frames would allow the use of two 4S2P's I think many would want them. I think all would have been ok if TP still made the 8S2P but that extra thickness of that 13 ga. wire is a killer.

PM me your # and I'll try to call to see what we can come up with, let me know a good time for you. Appreciate your offer to help work out an option.

Thanks...

Rick

Novaman,

I am in for this mod ... i am HV also and use a brick assembly of pack to build a 8s2p ( 4x3s and 2x2s) ... it fits now but when i will get the real pack ( 2 4s2p genII) , i will be in the same problem of Rickc ... if you do this mod , i am your next client on the list

rickc, are you using the hardened shaft on your logo10...if Novaman is going to go through the trouble of modifying the frames to fit the new 4s2ps then it would be nice to go one step further and make sure they fit with the hardened shaft as well. I have been struggling with this problem for a while...seems that the new cells from TP came out thinker than they were hoping for. I can get my gen1 8s2p to fit the stock frames with the hardened shaft no problem. The new packs are significantly thicker and heavier. I am hoping they will still sell the gen 1 packs for this application. I never felt that the battery was holding back the performance of the machine. I am using a b50-16xl with a 13 tooth pinion and I get 12-15 min of hard 3d flights.

Novaman, I am in for this mod as well. Please consider the hardened main shaft clearance.

i just finished up a modified frame set for rickc. i will send them out to him tomorrow.
rick has a hardened main shaft for the logo 10, so i am sure he will try that fit also and let us know.
the battery will be 7.25 mm lower, so will see if the 2 4s2p's fit with the hardened mainshaft.

future frames will be changed for more clearance, the overall height will be larger and battery support lower. the mod is pretty easy to do, i just had to make a couple carbon plates instead of the battery plate and cut 2 new slits in the frames.

Ahhh I see the new piece comes through the frames and is locked in place with the smaller piece which acts as a spacer for the main gear also. Nice.......
