| Hi Guys I havent been on in a while, I'm just catching up on the threads now.
Something troubles me as I read this one,
Colour.
Stealing and pawning radio control items that are a bit specialist, strikes me as the work of someone with at least a nodding acuaintence with the hobby. Even a day one hack's first attempt to stamp his mark on a model is often paint. Also working on the principle that graffitti is an established teenagers kick, I suspect that anybody who could plan to steal and pawn a heli or five, would at least have the savy to attempt a disgiuse by spray painting the canopies.
A few stray thoughts on storage.
As it happens I have a few friends who are part of the boating brigade, they have issues during the seasons when their boats are harboured. There are a few interesting stories doing the rounds about methods of keeping their boat contents safe that would once have been in the realm of James Bond,. One that tickles my sense of techie justice is a local carachter who has a cell phone and micro switch connected to a solar charger and also a small digi cam. If the cabin on his boat opens the cabin lights go on the cam takes a pic and the redial function on the cellphone is triggered letting him know instantly that all in the world of his cabin is not as it should be. The phone is on a pay as you go contract (may be a UK only thing) and costs him nothing other than £5 credit that sits unused unless his boat is burgled.
All in all I find the above solution to be quite tidy for storage in remote locations. What thief would expect a solar charger running cheap camera and cell phone solution? granted a garage or lock up would also require a lighting aspect, However off the shelf parts such as a car battery, A solar Car battery charger, Cell phone and car charger kit, and 12 v inspection lamps are all readlily available, I would imagine a contact/ proximity/ or tilt switch would take care of the door issues, the only thing left is a means of pushing the send button on a cell phone!
Now if only we knew anything about Servos around here
Jorjo.
ps. perhaps photos of pawned helis would be a good start,
That way folks in Flyfree's prediciment could decide if its worth a closer look in person.
Food for thought !
( If the thread were, I found a heli, describe it as proof and I will return it, then the nature of this thread would clearly be the best approach. But In view of this situation where Helis are in a pawn shop for sale or on public view, I don't think it would be in any way inapropriate to post photos accordingly. if they are legitimate, it would possibly bring a buyer to the shop, if they are illigitimate it would still be down to the true owner to verify it legally), |
