I have a KSJ one-way start shaft that's slipping on my starter. There's a plastic collar that's supposed to hold it by the pressure of tightening the screws. I tightened it too hard and stripped the hex bolts. Now what to do? Should I just glue it on? Should I get rid of the plastic and use something else? Casting out the question over the ocean of heli knowledge...

I had that problem too .. i got it fixed.. the way i'd done was puttting that pin back into the hole on the shaft.. using dremel cut a slot that fit into the housing tightened up the hex screw. it's all done.. won't slipped anymore.. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem........not any more!!...hehe...that sucker isn't going to slip now!! I drilled a hole right through the adapter and bolted it on with a 3mm bolt. This worked because my starter shaft had a hole through it for a pin that was to lock the original cone in place. I had already removed the threaded part of the starter shaft to clear the one-way bearing in the hex shaft.

Starter?

Thanks Naomi, I got the idea from the fact that my new $$$$$ million dollar starter shaft was a P.O.S. That little plastic piece should be a bit thicker, that might prevent this from happening, it only has to slip a couple of times and it's already too thin, there is NO WAY to get it tight enough. You know what they say; "necessity is the mother of invention"......Aint it the truth????

You guys should just get Vario's one way starter. It works perfectly.
I used to have the KSJ one and I hated it.

Peter

I had the same problem. I just dug in my aluminum tubing section and found the right diameter tubing. Cut it the same length as the plastic piece and then make a compression cut down the side like the plastic one. Put it all together and it should tighten up and not slip anymore.

One-Way?

I agree with Peter, that's what the problem is. That small sleeve of plastic is a bit undersized to allow a good grip when you tighten the bolts. Of coarse you don't know that as it seems tight until you use it a couple of times.......then it slips and takes a couple of thou off the INSIDE diamiter of the plastic sleeve where it slips on the starter shaft, and that causes it to be loose.
Of coarse the bolts are now as tight as they can get so the result is slippage. I just pinned the whole thing to the starter shaft and that's that.

Reverse the One-Way

I have the KSJ one-way starter which drives the motor counter-clock-wise. No problem except my EK4 monster truck uses a TTR 70 heli engine and has a starter cone on the opposite side of the crankshaft. This means I need to drive CLOCKWISE. Obviously, my one-way shaft would just spin.

I would like to screw off my heli shaft and screw on a rigid shaft (no one-way) to the fittting already on my starter. Does such a product exist?
