Hi,

Wondering if it's best to solder motor cables from speed controller directly to motor terminals or if wires can be soldered to connectors that slip over motor terminals? Corona instructions suggest the latter. Comments? Cheers.

I much prefer to solder than have more connections that can cause problems.

If you solder, then its one less joint to worry about !!

Bill,

I originally had my heli set up hardwired between the ESC and the motor. However, I recently converted to a brushless set-up and I switched to the 3.5mm gold connectors and I am very pleased with them. Now that I have seen them in action I wouldn't go back to hardwire soldering. They connect very firmly, create no problems, and allow you to disconnect the motor if you want to. Here is a link to the site where I got my connectors. I think the connectors that I purchased are the ones at the very top of the page.

If you have the brush type motor, I'd use connecters. Just for the simple reason of being able to do maintainance on the motor. If you've got a brushless set up, by all means hard wire it. You'll never be taking the brushless out unless it blows up!

Thanks for the input guys. I'm using an Orion 13x2 Rush motor. My hobby shop recommends soldering the leads to the motor to reduce any possible power loss. Certainly difficult to do any maintenance on the motor with this kind of setup. Not fond of my ESC leads getting shorter if the motor needs to be replaced. I'm not at that construction stage yet so I have time to decide. May try connectors and see how it goes. Can always solder. Cheers.

You wouldn't have to shorten your esc leads to disconnect. Just heat them up with the tip of your soldering iron and they will pull apart with no problems.
