Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > To RAP or Shuttle

I was all geared up to buy my first heli (Raptor 30) i went down to talk to my local dealer whom informed me that there is a real problem obtaining spare parts for this bird.

He said that in the past he has had to wait 3 months for spares to arrive & had even resorted to making his own in the end!!!!

He recommended that i opt for the Shuttle ZX as spares are "of the shelf" & it’s on par with the Rappy in performance.

He also said that with the Rappy the standard pipe is junk & you need to spend an extra £60 for a working one!!

Does he speak the truth?

hi there

i'm on my third heli now.

it sounds to me like your dealer just wants to sell you a shuttle ZX.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shuttle was discontinued soon because the sceadu is successfully out now and spare parts for that are totally non-existant.

raptor parts are in abundance, just check all the english heli shops that advertise on the web.

it is true that the standard raptor exhaust is crap but then it costs less than a tenner.

as a beginner, just keep checking for loose bolts etc.

i currently fly my 30 on a yusa exhaust for about £25 but i am looking to buy a zimmerman when i can afford the luxury.

definitely go for the raptor 30 !!!!!!!!!!!

I'd buy the Raptor over the Shuttle, too. However, if he really can't get the parts for the Raptor, get the Shuttle.

The Shuttle isn't going anywhere any time soon. They are releasing the Shuttle Plus shortly. It's in the $200 range.

Thanks for the help, i had my mind set on the Raptor & would like to stick with it.

I could always order a crash kit in advance!!!

What would be a good alternative muffler? i would like one which would also keep the noise level down?
I am planning on an OS engine if that makes any odds.

Raptor Spares

Lamb,

From what ive seen there is no shotage in the UK, there are some very good shops in the UK which do very efficient mail order!if you cant get the parts locally.

Im using the TT upgrade muffler with an os32 (i think it was about £35) which is much better than the standard, and very quiet.

As far as buying a crash kit, i bought a load of sceind hand spares of the net (booms, blades spindles ect) but havent needed them yet!!!

I would say keep the cash and spend it on fuel, when the day comes when it does go in. Strip her down and make a part list, then work out what is better to get the parts seperate or use the crash kit.

in the beginging I don't think you would save much time by having a crash kit as it may not contain all the parts you need!

Hope this helps

Andy

I’ve found a model shop close to where i work, they have the Rappy in stock & don’t have a problem getting spares.

They will also do the essential set-up checks after ive finished building it!!!

They seem to think that it will be fine with the stock muffler while im learning & i should upgrade it once im competent.

Thanks again for all the advise guys

Standard muffler

Lamb,

Do some digging on the standard TT raptor muffer, its shocking, they have a tendency to fall apart! Seriously go for the £35 upgrade TT it a very good compomise between the £8 standard TT and a Hartori or Zimmerman (£loads)

Cheers

shuttle

I like the shuttle better than the raptor. Have both fly both but like the shuttle better. Also its not going anywhere. The just released a new version of the shuttle with some of the sceado parts in it. They left the bad parts out so now you can have the best of both helis.

Geting parts?????

That is a bunch of BS from the LHS. I had the same reply from mine and after talking to one of the employes that works there he told me that they don't like to order the parts. That is what it is not that they can't get them. You get what every you want the raptor is a good heli. You mite have to mail order them I do and it is faster then the LHS could ever do. The most I have had to wait is two days.

I Have Both

I have a Shuttle ZXX and a Raptor. Both are great (much, much better then a Hawk). I say get a Raptor if you just have to have one now. Or, if you can wait a month, get the Shuttle Plus.
