As I understand it the S is for the short motor (typically a higher KV rating) and the T is the same as the L or long motor.
The C40-9L has a KV rating of 3333 and the 10L is rated at 3000. The 10S is rated at 4200KV. For comparison, the 8L (the generally recommended motor for the VE) is KV rated at 3750. I know folks have flown the VE with the 10S, and if you're NEVER going to use anything more than 8 cells it would work OK. The 8L, while slightly less KV is a long bodied motor which generally has a lot more torque when compared to the S motor.
On the Aircraft World website the price difference is only $10 between the 8L/9L and the 10S. For my money, the 8L is the more versatile motor and I'd go with that. If you're just deciding between the 9L and the 10S, go with the 10S as the VE will likely be underpowered with the 9L.
Just my 2 cents worth !!
