e-JR Voyager E > Help needed for hacker motor pinion

Hi,

Can any one help me with a problem I have on a JR Voyager E. I'm running standard setup with a Hacker motor B40-8L and Kontronics 40-6-12. I've got a 15 tooth pinion and 10 cell nicad packs. I bought this second hand. I can't seem to get the heli off the ground. I've tachoed it a 0 pitch at 1500 rpm and measured the cell voltage under load which is 9.9volts. Does this all sound right? Also I've got a pair of washout blades on it. Does anyboby know what voltage under load the cells shoud be at? What pinion I should be running at? And how to get the damm thing off the ground?

Cheers

I don't run and am not familiar with that controller, but the Schulze that I currently run (with the same motor and 16t gear) needs to see the available full voltage at arming to function properly....

That said, 9.9 seems a bit low for a ten cell pack under load... I would guess a bad cell pulling the system down...

Mattie,

A couple of things come to mind.

First the washout blades...they work well, but a LOT of folks set the pitch incorrectly and have problems. The settings from the manual are fine but they should be measured at the blade tip NOT the root. If measured at the root, you won't have the pitch needed to fly.

Second, I'd look at a larger pinion gear with the Hacker. I have the same motor as you and run a 17t pinion (using 3s Li-PO battery). You will lose some headspeed as pitch increases (best time to tach is at hover) and since you're at 1500 now, I'd expect less at hover. A bit less rpm than where you are at now will induce the "wobbles"...a fore and aft pitching (wobble), that can lead to unplanned contact with terra firma (crunch). 1400 rpms would be my absolute minimum for "normal" flying.

Third, as BigTim said, 9.9 seems a bit low for a 10 cell pack...maybe you can borrow a good pack from a friend and check that one against yours.

well, I run the C40- 8L and 3S li-po with a 15T with no problem;
Headspeed is around 1650 rpm, nore than enough...(no 3D)
