Can anyone reading this give some recommendations to books / online reference you've found useful in getting into CNC programming?

Thanks guys,

Todd

If you're using MasterCam, the website www.emastercam.com has a great forum.

there are alot of people that call themselves programmers because they can run a machine with conversational programming. but most of them cannot program using G and M codes. if you can use G and M you can run them all. becuase they will all run on G and M also known as EIA.

cforcht, you are mostly right. the average machine is usually fanuc compatable. but there are other formats that are not the same.

really i guess i stuck my foot in my mouth on that one huh? ive been running cnc machines for almost 17 years now. and havent found one that wouldnt run on g/m code but i guess its possible since i havent run every variety of machine made. ok most of the mainstream machines are made to be fanuc compatible hows that. of course that still may be a stretch.

tons of them run off of g and m codes. running off of g and m codes doesn't make them fanuc compatable. just makes them eia. but most of the new machines are fanuc compatable. i own a cnc shop, been a programmer for a long time. we still have our first machine, a mori sl-25 with a fanuc 10t control.
