James, you got it. I'm driving to Dothan Thursday night and staying at Kam's house, then driving from Dothan to Birmingham Friday morning. I'm bringing a canopy, table, and a couple of chairs. If we need anything else, let me know. I will also have the generator, so we can charge whenever we need to.

I do use the neoprene tubing included with the kit for the clunk, right?

Thanks!

No

I prefer the 1/8 ID (THIN) tygon in the tank. Same as I use for the vent line. I cannot tell you how the black included tubing works. Try it and let me know if you want. Also, note I use the STENS 610-381 fuel filter/clunk. Ricks has that as well as the tubing.

First, can you use a 3/16 drill to drill the holes for the fuel fittings? I can't find any metric drill bits.

Second, James, do you use the 1/8 in the tank and vent? I thought the 1/8 was for the fuel lines and the 3/32 was for the vent. The 3/32 is the smaller, thinner tubing.

Thanks!

Small for both

3/32 inside the tank (clunk) and also for the vent. 1/8 from tank nipple to carb, and same on return line.

The idea is to have the drill bit JUST undersize, so the fitting literally threads into the hole. Help with leaks.

I've never used one of these dial indicators before. To get .001, is that just between the fine lines? Meaning, the dial moves only between the two lines?

Thanks

Crap, I knew that getting the three motor screws out was going to be hard but I had no idea. I put my full weight into the screwdriver but still stripped all three.

Does Ace carry the replacement?

Looking through this thread again, I see I should have used a heat gun on them. Double crap.

At least my fan dialed first time less than .0015. The clutch barely moved when I dialed it, easily less than .0005.

Good results

good job on the dial indicating.

Ace has the bolts. At least mine did.

I use an impact driver on them and break them loose that way.

Thanks James,

As far as the indicating, I got some really good tips.

I love Ace Hardware. It has already made building this heli so much easier. I couldn't find the M4 locknuts for the removable pull-start. I didn't even search long, just went to Ace on the way home instead. Found out they carry 3/32 tygon too. Lucky, since I didn't order enough.

James

Did you ever do a build post on the Carbon Predator ?

Any pointers ?

I will be using Hitec HS-6975's on the cyclic and throttle, and a S2953 on the tail.

I also ordered some Tettra fittings, 90 deg and straight for the fuel tank.

Stator Gator for the sensor, and I am still up the air (no punt intended !)with regards to a GV-1 or CSM governor.

The gyro will be a GY401, since I have one sitting around.

This is my first gasser, but I have several large glow (60 and 90 class) and electric heli builds under my belt already.

not yet

I'm actually filming a carbon gasser buildup now. We'll see how well my editor (Heli-Driver) can do with my footage.

AGRAV8, if I can be of any help on the video let me know. I've done work in tv for 15+ years and have access to Final Cut Pro and can also post to DVD.

Thanks, Dan

I'll certainly keep that generous offer in mind.

SO little time, SO many distractions.....geez, I cannot see the forest from all these trees !!

Kinda like learning to build and fly a first helicopter. Without the help of the RR gang !

depending on how well detailed and thought out your script is, you, me...we and whom ever your working with might be able to offer this project to Century to include with their Predator kits...

Have a section on the DVD for tips and tricks, hop-ups, etc... maybe we could get Century to make some pro-bono donations

I have the equipment if anyone on the East Coast wants to do a shoot. I have a 750 line Panasonic F250B, a Panasonic Mini-DVC Pro cam, Final Cut Pro, lights, audio equipment..

any thoughts?

What's the best way to grind down the tail blades? I don't have a grinder. Maybe it's an excuse to get one. I didn't have a dial indicator before either.
