Henseleit 3DNT - Rocket - 3DMP > Stupid tank question

Hi guys,

maybe I missed something, but how do I empty the tank after a flight session on this machine ???

On my other helis, I disconnect the fuel line from the carb, or I put a "T" filter on this fuel line, but on my 3DNT, this line is so short that it's impossible to use a "T" filter and it's not easy to disconnect/reconnect the fuel line from/to the carb because of the carbon plate supporting then fan shroud...

I have emptied mine before now using the same method , taking the line from the carb, takes longer though due to the "sponge" clunck..
But now i do normally finish with an auto , mainly because i forget to set the timer on my tx...

On the other side though , one of the reasons for emptying the tanks is to stop the fuel line rotting in the nitro , but if you use the 0% you have no nitro left in the tank , so should be ok ...

Thanks for such a quick answer... but I really want to find an easy way to get the fuel out of this tank.

The problem is I did not think about it before... the first time I tried to empty it after my first engine tests this week !
One line goes to the pipe for pressure, another goes to the bottom of the mecanics for fueling. Both of them are on top of the tank (last revision of the mecanic, 2003). The last line goes straight from the top corner of the tank to the carb, but too short to put a filter in the middle...

I can't imagine having to get the heli upside down each time I have to suck the fuel out !

If you really wanted to drain to tank every time and always have fuel left over , then why not just add an extra nipple at the bottom of the tank. Block it with a stopper and use that to drain ..

Hi Darren,

the main reason I want to be able to emty the tank is I don't have a lot of time to fly... sometimes, I have to wait for several weeks between two flight sessions. I don't like the idea of having fuel in my tank for such a long time. Methanol sucks water out of the ambient air and the fuel becomes crap. This is the best way to get engine troubles on the next flight...

Know what you mean , i also leave my NT on the fridge and the idea of fuel left in scares the missus to death.. Good job you cant see it with the NT

Think the best way would be to add the nipple slighty on one side. Get one of those tank fitting kits for planks

Drain the tank thru the fuel feed line...

It is easier if you change the stock sponge clunk for a traditional clunk

At the end of a flying session I put the helicopter on its head then drain the fuel from the same nipple I used to fill it up.

Also be slightly careful when changing the clunk, because I used to have a very light clunk in one of my 3ds, and when doing rolls/flips etc with the tank about 1 third full, the clunk would move out of the fuel.

Do not know if it was the fuel moving faster than the clunk or the clunk moving faster than the fuel, but putting the stock clunk back on solved the problem.

The 2003 version of the 3D has a new clunk. It's not a sponge one anymore. Replaced by a heavy metal one...

I will probably use the short line to the carb to get the fuel out of the tank... Not easy to plug/unplug, but I don't want to get this tank out for now... Next time I'll have to get it out, I'll place a 4th nipple on the underside, with a short line + a stopper.

Thanks for your ideas... ;-)

Ben

I would put the nipple on the side or rear very close to the bottom, not underneath as the nipple will protrude into the tank. Depending on how much will mean you will be unable to suck the fuel below that level ..still leaving a little fuel in there.

add a T-piece and a stopper or a 3 way fueler to the carb line

Galifrey,

it was of course my first idea, and I got a Robbe "Fuel Filler Set" (S4155, with a T filter and a stopper) from my favorite hobby retailer... but the "T" filter is too long (or the carb line too short !)... The "T" filter is longer than the distance between the tank nipple and the carb... Impossible to put it without having to route the fuel line on the outside of the carbon plate supporting the fan shroud (for example).
I like the idea of having this carb line as short and direct as possible, so... :-)
