R.I and Airfoil systems have free play roll axis so the heli flight will not be affected by the gyro motion but each gyro works over two axis and due to gyro disposition the pan axis will be the other one. Pan axis is usually geared to the pan servo and the Kenyon gyro will overstress the pan servo and the heli flight could be directly affected . Airfoil was designed as an independient unit and gives some free play to the hole mount thanks to the bungee cords. It has more mass to block heli vibration/shakes and the gyro running will add some force in pan axis simulating extra-weigh. No influence over the tilt axis with this configuration.
My gasser weights now 7.5kg + 3.9kg Airfoil mount (mount+kenon+still camera). Kenyon Gyro KS2 is designed to stabilize a +- 800 gr device so it has very low influence over a 11kg system and I cant notice any difference in flight perfomances having it on or off

By this, do you mean that the gyro does not affect the pitch-axis at all? - ie. it only stabilises the mount in pan?

Thanks,

John C.

John, its impossible for it to stabilize the tilt/pitch axis having it place as you can see at any Airfoil mount. The rotating disc have no effect in the same direction they are rotating. If it turns around the Z axis, then the X and Y will be the only ones affected the same way as over a bicycle wheel. Any motion in the same plane of "Z" will not be affected)
You can only damper two axis by each kenyon unit so you must choose which ones selecting different kenyon positions. Then you will need to use flexible transmission on each axis you want to damper to allow the gyro work like a damper and still have control over them. This is apparently easy to do with roll+pan and a bit more complex (not too much) over the tilt axis.
Can use two kenyon units to control all three axis like some camera operators do, but that means double weigh.
