Update!

i have an update for that case...
that's what happend... this 12 years old came with his father to see
some one flying that heli (shuttle 30), and they was standing from behind and just watched this 25 years old boy learning how to fly...
and suddenly the heli was start falling from up the sky (apparently lost control on the heli) and dived right into the spot where they was standing and hit the boy straight in his head!!!
that's the testimony of his father that was writing in todays news-paper.
and the boy is still in death risk!!! and did'nt wake up yet!

Thats very unfortunate. Hope the boy comes out of this well. I wonder why it is the heli always comes right to you when you screw up. I hav eseen sevral times the pilot screw up and the heli always aimed right at him. We have rules no one in the pits except the flyers. Apparently they dont follow the same safety issues. Except in a few instancs I never allow anyone who is not a pilot near me when I fly. I figure that a pilot should be aware and alert to the dangers.

Brett - Helis are like boomerangs. You toss them around and find them suddenly comming back to get you.
As for the unfortunate accident, the situation is very complex and under police investigation. There would probably be some legal and financial aspects to it so further details are kept from the public. The real problem is that, unlike other hobby related accidents, this one injured an innocent spectator rather than the person practicing the hobby. Whem I fly, I always hope I hit myself before I hit others. I'd rather live with physical disability than with the fact I hurt someone else.
The upside of this incident is that awareness to safety and insurance has reached an all-time high. I just hope a lesson can and will be learned from this.
Our prayers are with the boy and his family. We shall try and keep you updated on this.

Very Sad News

Just wanted to express my sympathy to the family as well. Different countries, yes, but with the same passion for this hobby. Also, let's not forget about the pilot of the heli as well. My prayers are with all those involved. God Bless. Chuck

To the idiots here on RR: Hope you feel good about your comments now you dumb bastarts, insensitive pigs. You must think back to this day when someone close to you die and have the knowledge that someone is thinking as you are now, bloody idiots. I would like to meat you face to face.

Sorry guys but people like that needs to get sorted out – please do it for me I live to far away!!!

for those of you intrested, i translated the story for you....

The boy, age 12, arrived with his father to see helicopters, one of the flying model lost a control and hurt in him directly. He was rushed to the hospital Tel Hashomer

The flying model hit the boy in the head: The boy age 12 was hurt after noon from a flying model helicopter. He was transported by portable emergency treatment of Magen David Adom to the hospital Tel Hashomer, when he is unconscious and his condition bad.

In his words, " the flying model enters in him in the direct form above into the head. The boy lost the recognition immediately. He was passed into commercial vehicle.

It may seem a little hard to read cause it might not sound right, but its the best i could do.

Sadly, things like these show how big of a family the helicopter guys are...God Bless his Family, and ease the pain for them.

Safety First Always

Hi
I have just read this thread through from the first time from start to finish. First off I am amazed people would think that ANYONE would make this up.
Secondly EGO is a big factor in flying model aircraft( rotary and fixed wing) of any kind and the attitude it wont happen to me.
I have heard on more than one occasion how less expereienced pilots marvel at the guy who goes screaming up the runway inverted at less the 3 feet off the deck less than 20 feet away from cars and standing people.
We should at all times adopted the attitude that full size pilots do. What can happen will happen. ( it happened to me earlier on this year, a moment carelessness on my part ended up in a badly damaged model and a moment of somber refection that I got off lucky)
Think what you are doing
Think what might happen and make your decisions when you fly accordingly.

We have now had 2 deaths on 2 years from accidents in model flying and it is two too many. I for one pray that we will have no more.

The family of that young boy, our heli flying friends in Isreal and the pilot of that heli are now paying a heavy for that accident.

My prayers for him and all involved, except for the jackasses in this thread.

This is why we all have to be safe when we fly, I dont want someone dieing because of something that I did, even if it was a complete accident.

Besides that, look at what has happened to the hobby in Israel because of this one accident, sure we all know its a dangerous hobby, we know what can happen, and aside from the most awful effects the secondary one is to draw us closer to the day when the hobby is banned, and apart from probably the parents of the boy, I dont know anyone who wants that, especially on RR

Safety first flying second

Guys safety first, flying is second. I encountered the same problem in my field, No one was hurt. Sometimes people forget safety and just want to fly, no matter if the heli secured enough to fly. Please be very carefull. It doesn't worth it if someone got hurt.

Tragic

This accident is tragic and my thoughts and sympathy go out to the boy's family.

I think it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that we're flying in a safe enviroment. We're the ones that control the image and reputation that the hobby projects to the population at large. If people come to watch you fly your heli and you feel that they're not at a safe distance we need to tell them to back away. Put all the pride and what not aside and remember that no matter how good of a pilot you are, sometimes you can lose control. We need to do our best to ensure that if control of the heli is lost possible injury is minimized to the fullest. If you as the pilot have spectators and the flying conditions are the not optimal (high winds etc) we need to be able to pack it up and call it a day. If we as responsible R/C Heli enthusiasts see others flying unsafely we need to speak with them about their habits. Individuals flying unsafely put not only us at risk but the hobby as a whole. I would almost liken it to pitbull attacks. .000001% of all pitbulls might attack and kill and innocent person yet that small percentage can tarnish the reputation of all pitbulls. How many times have you heard someone say they don't like pitbulls because they're mean, evil, vicious dogs? Yet the majority are loving caring intelligent animals. We need to make sure that when people hear the words "Radio controlled model helicopter" they don't immediately think negative thoughts.

It's in our power to ensure that the hobby thrives as a safe, exciting and rewarding hobby for hobbyists of all ages. Swallow your pride and make the right calls. It's better than the alternative.

-Kyle

PS - I'm not a very great pilot (yet) so I've already been practicing what I've been preaching. I generally fly with my 5 year old son Joshua and he knows where he needs to be while the heli is airborne and I always know where he is. I also had a family friend come by and watch me fly one time with his young (2) daughter. I immediately killed the throttle and spoke with him to let him know what we're dealing with and to keep a safe distance and be aware of where the heli is at all times. I also showed him up close the engine and the blades and threw some RPM figures at him to give him an idea of what kind of power and speed we were dealing with. I wanted to ensure he was well well aware that while this may technicall be a "toy", it was not to be taken lightly.
