Today I flew my Zoom 400, wow it feels like a 30 size, great !!!!!!

Used servo's:
nick / roll / heck, Futaba 3108
Pitch Hitec 55 (I turned the pitch level so it came closer to the frame)
Hacker B20-18L
CC-P25 ESC
Kokam 1500 3S

I used a micro gyro but this this thing is to 'weak' on the tail, I will put in a GY-401.

let you know

I took the pinion from the supplied motor.

Or you can use a Ikarus pinion and use on the under-side (not the top side like standard) on the tail gear, you need to turn your tail blades because the derection has changed than.

I bought it in Holland (Vasco) but RCMarket stocks them:

Hey how does it fly with that B20-18L? How is the 3D compared to a Pic Pro with the same motor? Thanks!

Mikel

I'm considering on getting one and I have a very similar setup on my piccolo pro!

This heli will soon be mass imported by hobbypeople.net. Price should be very competitive by then.

Hi Max 2025

Hi Hooverup

I saw some people recommend Himax 2025-4200 while you use 2025-2700. Would 2700 be too low Kv ? Anyone compare between the two ?

BTW, I just got the Zoom 400 from flying-hobby.com. I found the price is much more competitive. I am interested to know where to get the Schwizer 300 scale canopy. Anyone have a clue ?

With the 130t spur gear in the Zoom, the 4200 kv motor cannot be geared to run where it operates in the 93-95% maximum rpm range (sweet spot - most efficient). The 2700kv motor with an 8t pinion puts the motor at 93% at 1700rpm which works well for the Zoom. I ran a 2025-4200 for a few days and watched it try to go through near melt-down and the ESC and batteries didn't like it either.

Schweizer 300 canopy set is available wherever the CyberCopter is sold.

how does your zoom handle light breezes? better than hornet or is it only suitable for indoors?

I live on the beach front on the Gulf of Mexico and we have constant breezes/wind and the 500gram Zoom is a piece of cake to fly in these conditions compared to my Hornet II (290 grams).

I flew the little bird with the GY 401 GYRO, WOW that is a improvment!

There was some wind force 3 (7-10knots)-(3.4-5.4m/s) and no problem at all.

Total weight, including 3S1500 LiPo is 472gram

Let's see how long the parts last (gears)

I am flying it with a PG03 and guess what ? It is just comparable to my Hornet with GY240. I am flying in no wind condition though. So there may difference under windy situations.

I have disassembled my zoom, since I have change the main mask. And as a result of this I found out the reasons why the pitch control is so tight. For Zoom 400 everthing was assembled in factory and every tiny screw was really turned tight. By loosening some of screw, there would be some improvement and the major major area is a little piece of plastic that moves up and down inside the main mask controlling the pitch. This one is very tight and have a lot of friction when moving up and down. I have file a little bite of the open slit in the main mask and after assemble back the main mask, the pitch is moving much much better now. I cannot hear the gliching noise of the pitch servo anymore.
Just some experience I think worth sharing with other Zoom users.

Update on my earlier post regarding motor testing/selection. I have resolved the heating problems of the higher kv motors to some degree through gearing and the installation of a Hacker B20 sized heatsink on my HiMaxx motors and now recommend the following combinations for the Zoom 400. HiMaxx 2025 2700 10t pinion and Hacker HS or HiMaxx 2025 3200 9t pinion and Hacker HS or HiMaxx 2025 4200 8t pinion with Hacker HS. These will give you increasing amounts of power as you move up the kv scale but do need temp management to survive. Headspeeds are 2100/2200/2600 respectively.
