Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > I have a GOOD Raptor 30 problem!?

After crashing my Raptor 30 a few weeks ago I have been waiting on parts to come in at my LHS to repair it. I almost ordered the parts from Heliproz until I discovered they didn't take a Discover card! Today one of my co-workers for over 20 years that I have been helping move and helping work on his Jeep suprised me with a brand new in the box Raptor 30 ARF 49bb with TT engine! The Raptor I crashed I built from a kit with bb upgrade and I went with an OS engine. Now I can't make up my mind what to do? Should
I ask him if i can return it for a kit and OS? Would that hurt his feelings? Should I just go ahead and try the TT engine? I also like to build the heli myself, not to sure about a pre-built! Build it and fly it as is and upgrade my crashed Raptor to a 50?

WHAT TO DO!!! WHAT TO DO!!!!!

Raptor

Well here is my 2 bits
If I were to buy and Engine it would be OS
If a TT 36 was given to me I would keep the TT.
I have one of the TT's which work GREAT.

If you return it I think you may hurt his feelings a little, I know it would hurt mine a bit if that was me. Maybe you could just use the "OS" out of the crashed "R30" if it's still Ok that is and them upgrade the chopper to a 50 size or just use it as spare parts. Then take out that TT36H engine and use it as a "Fishing sinker" or "Paper weight". Just kidding I think there ok if you can get them tuned right. I think you should be right in the "ARF R30". A friend of mine bought the ARF model and hasn't had a problem with it. Generally I think they do a pretty good job assembling them. They loctite the necessary parts etc.

I vote for keeping the ARF the way it is and then buy a R50 kit and using the crashed bird for parts, you and your friend will both be happy.

KEEP IT

Keep the arf I havent had a problem with mine its been a great one (knock on wood) Just make sure you go through it and check everything upgrade the tail hub and tail boom supports and fly it My tt36 the first one i had lots of problems with kept sending it in for repairs and finally they sent me a new one and it is great. I would use the os32 and save the tt36 my 32 is a great engine and I dont have any problems with it.

Here's what I would do. Talk to your friend, and be honest. Tell him that you already have the 30. That you prefer a "kit" rather than an arf and explain why, be honest. I would ask if the 30 arf could be returned in exchange for a 50 kit and you would cover the difference in cost. Tell them that you already have the 30 and have an interest in the 50. I think you will find your friend wants you to be happy and that if you are honest then no ones feelings should be hurt.

I have personally just built the new 50 kit and can tell ya it is so nice. I sold my 30 and got the 50, glad I did.

Really

Honesty is the best policy. Your friend will not begrudge you if you are honest with him. Also as a sidebar, I had a co-worker whom like all of us made the occasional mistake. But instead of admitting it he would lie thru his teeth and get all defensive about it & blame everybody else. Well he is no longer with us. I would tell him over and over again, "Don't argue, just admit, I made or we made a mistake and I'll take care of it right away. End of argument and everybodies happy." I guess it was so ingraned into his thick skull to argue about everything and anything. Needless to say nobody wanted to work with him any longer because they felt they were being stabbed in the back so many times after covering for him. Honesty will make you and others feel better in the long run.

Keep It............

A friend gives you a gift, you take it and tell him how much you appreciate it. Take it out and fly it with the TT. Odds are you'll be happy with. If it gives you trouble...... then switch it out for the O.S..
Just my 2 cents.

Well, I must say that I go against the grain when it comes to TT engines. I have an OS32 and a TT 36, and fly them both all the time. The TT is a fine engine and generates plenty of power. IMO, these boards perpetuate the MYTH that the TT 36 made today isn't a really fine engine. I've seen plenty that suggests that OS and TT build great engines and both build problem engines. Whatever problems TT had (carburation problems mainly) was before my time, I guess. I wouldn't waste the time to worry about it. And when you get both running you'll never lose flying time waiting for parts--unless, of course, you crash them both.

To my mind, a really good question here is, why a 30? The suggestion to get the 50 conversion kit is pretty sound. Nice gift either way, though.

My two bits

For hovering it is a very reliable engine. For 3D OS is the way to go. I recommend the using the TT Pro 36 until you get to 3D flying. I will be taking out mine and putting in my GMP Cricket.

Raptor Problem

SOME PEOPLE ARE NEVER SATISFIED.
You get a free helicopter and you complain that its not exactly what you want. How ungrateful can you be.
A lot of people would give an arm and a leg to be able to have a helicopter to fly.
I would give it back to him and tell that you are not worthy of his gift.
I also agree with Tday there is nothing wrong with the TT36, you just have to workout the tuning just like any other problem with your heli.
I had all the problems with tuning but it now performs perfectly.

OUCH!!!!!!!

Clive45,

Believe me when I say "I AM NOT COMPLAINING!" I am just looking at my options. Who would complain about getting a free heli?!

TT36

I just replaced my TT36 that came with my ARF for an OS32. There definately is a notable power difference, but i am no longer plagued by the incossistent idle of the TT. So...with that said...

Anyone interested in a Used TT36? (1 gallon of CP 15% has been run thru it). Would $50 be too much to ask? I also have a new TT36 upgrade mufler I bought from MTA (only flown with TT36 engine for two tanks) I'll throw in for $25.

Well I did it.

I went ahead and built it and am going to give the TT36 a try. I hope I don't have too much trouble getting it set right! The OS32 in my crashed heli was tuned by Andy at Aerohobbies and I have 7 gallons thru it and have only had to adjust it a click or two!

Thanks for the input guys!
