a glow plug to fail after only 1 gallon?

Just wondering, because I had trouble keeping my engine running yesterday and decided to buy some new glow plugs to see what happens. When I plug my glow igniter into the new glow plug, it burns brighter than the old one. They are the same brand. Is this the likely problem? If it is, how did I wreck the plug? Was I running it too rich or lean?

I'm going to put the new plug in and see what happens.

Thanks

Congatulations.....you're an "old" guy now!!!
So, since you are a senior member now I feel I may answer your question with the truth!

That poor little plug is suffering from none other than the dreaded "PILOT ABUSE" hehehe........just kidding!

Even a new plug can go bad in a heart beat, unless you run your engine lean or overheat it the plug should last for a while. You probably aren't doing anything wrong, sometimes like anything else "stuff just happens". Don't worry about it.

Yeah, I guess since I know nothing about engine tuning I probably am the cause of that poor little plugs demise!

Is that the most likely cause of my problems yesterday though? I haven't had an opportunity to fly again since then.

I haven't touched the little screw inside the throttle lever yet (high speed?), just played with the other side needle. I'm out of my league with this engine tuning stuff... I dont know what it should sound like or look like or anything..

what's the best engine tuning resource on the web right now??

I thought it was the other way around... Ok, so the little screw inside the throttle lever controls idle, and the other side control high speed then?

that is useful info! thanks

Raptorhelius,
The screw inside the throttle arm controls the amount of fuel coming into your carb during idle. There is another small screw sticking out of the front of your carb that controls the idle RPM. Of coarse the long screw is the high end setting. Just clarifying that in case you weren't sure.
