Tried to fly my new Voyager E this morning, not a good start. Not sure why yet but just as it got light on the skids, it started spinning (CCW) very fast-- landing gear caught in the dirt and went over on it's side. Blades, one rotor grip, and one of the seesaw levers all broke so have to order parts, will add a flybar and feathering spindle to the order just in case.

Main rotor turns clockwise and tail rotor turns toward me at the top if I'm looking from behind the tail so think that was set up right? Gyro is a GY240, set to normal and appeared to be working in heading hold mode. Stock motor and ESC, 8 cell Nimh, purchased new and chared for the first time. My first time with an electric and using a new charger and wondering if I didn't get a full charge and this could have been a problem?

Went back to my Raptor and was able to get a few flights in but disappointed about the start with the Voyager. Hopefully someone will have some ideas, while I'm waiting for parts, I'll go back over the construction to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Probably gyro reversed.

It's a GY240 and was set to norm? Anyone else running this gyro on their Voyager and have to reverse it? Using an XP662 radio.

Will give that a try when I get the parts in a week or so, thanks.

Dave,

Sorry 'bout the crash (been there done that )!!!

One other possiblity...are the T/R grips connected with the pitch link arms at the leading edge or the trailing edge of the blades? (they should be leading edge) I got these reversed once and the result was exactly what your seeing. If they are at the leading edge then the gyro is likely set wrong. Switch it to "reversed" and try again.

Confirme that the pitch links are connected to the leading edge on the T/R. Looks like the gyro is the leading suspect.

I had the same problem when I ran up my VE. Fortunatly I had training sticks on, just incase of problems. It was amazing just how fast the heli spun as soon as it was light on the skids (sticks).

I'm using a 401 with a Futaba 9c so I can't help with the actual setting.

Thanks Luc-- checked them after the crash and both looked okay. I did order a spindle as they seem to go pretty fast the way I fly (crash?). I didn't get a lot of power up before it went over and the flybar wasn't even bent which surprised me. The blade has about a 1/2 inch nick so looks like the breaking rotor grip and washout arm took the brunt of the damage. Will make do flying the Raptor until I get back in business.

May have found my tail and crash problem, revolution mixing was on although with a small value (5%) for both up and down. Since I'm using a HH gyro, this should have been off and I wonder if I was literally chasing my tail as I powered up. Will still check to make sure the gyro doesn't need to be reversed but this was definitely set up incorrectly.

Think I'll do another reset on the radio and start fresh again with all the inputs. I'm using the manual provided settings for throttle and pitch, any reason to alter these when just getting started.

Thanks again for all the help.

I don't think the REVO input would have been the problem. I have set other peoples machines up when the forgot to turn off REVO in the 9C and it only causes drift and problems trimming the tail. It takes a lot of stick input to spin that fast. The gyro reverse problem is much more likely.
