I would think that C and assembler would be good skills to have if you wanted to get into UAVs. C and it's derivatives are compatible across many computer operating systems and microcontrollers. Assembler is more efficient and a better choice for programming micro-controllers.
In many microcontroller programming environments you can mix C with assembler as needed. Sometimes a C routine will be too complex or redundant/cyclical and eat up many proccesor/clock cycles in a micro-controller, so you have to resort to pieces of assembly code to stream line things a bit.
