CNC

It has and always will stand for Computer Numerical Control. The original acronym was NC which stands for Numerical Control.

Once computers were applied to NC in the mid 70's the acronym changed.

Methinks it's Computer Numerical Control too, done some FADAL CNC machining for a Uni project. NC used punched tapes or plugboards for dictating machining operations

. Imagine that lovely bling being made from a paper tape program!
