| Hi Ian,
I think it's meaningless use non-heli version of ESC in heli. It is not just about the softstart, however it is esential feature as well.
Helli version should differ at least in following major points.
* "Max throttle" is not an autodetect
* Softstart
* No brake
* Const. head speed mode
* BEC (not an opto version)
However most points looks as a peanuts, thay are quite important. Heli ESC should have a "fixed" throttle range, otherwise it is almost impossible to properly configure it (just try to us for instance DC ESC Jeti 50 in heli and you will see).
The next feature is softstart - it costs me two main wheel realising how useful it is ...
BEC - it is not a point for a JETI opto , but heli ESC should have much stronger BEC than others
... and last but not least, "Governor" mode. It is really nice when you can forget all about the throttle curves and focus just on setting the right RPMs. ESC check the actual rpm and maintain them according to the preset (input from RX).
I think that any single feature from the list is strong enough for a heli version choice ...
For more info you can findf the full specs at www.strat.at/download/Sensorless_EN.pdf and here www.aircraft-world.com/prod_datasheets/ac-esc.htm
However I am from CZ and I know personally Juraj Tinka (ESC designer) and I was one of the testers of JETI/HACKER ESC heli prototypes. I have currently HACKER MASTER ESC just in Airplanes (my ECO8 is still using Schulze-Future 45He), therefore I can't tell any concrete personal experience with the latest JETI/HACKER ESC models - but anyway the difference between airplane/heli version is essential - don't underestimate that and choose the right one.
Best Regards
