What would be the best battery for a stock set-up 7 or 8 cell and what brand and mah.

Stock setup should be 8-cell, GP3300 pack IMO.

Go with the 8 cell pack and you can use it when you move to a brushless motor later.

I use 2600ma NiMh - works well.
As above 3300 would also be a good choice.

Me too

I also use 8-cell packs with the stock setup - I have a couple 1700 MAH Ni-Cads that are good for 6-7 minutes, and 4 3300 MAH NIMH packs that are good for another couple minutes - No overheating problems so far.

so the gp3300's aren't too heavy? I have been looking at these 4/5
SC size batteries at cheapbatterypacks.com that seem to be much, much less in weight to the gp3300's . They are 2000Mah nimh.

Weight: 2.2oz 1.6oz

that's 3.2 oz for an 8-cell pack.

I should be getting my VE this week. I can't wait.

If you go to 10 cells the 2000's would be better. But for 8 the 3300's arent bad.

I'm using Cermark 8 Cell NiMH 3300mAH packs with the stock motor and ESC... Brushes last about 5 or 6 sessions, then change them...Also, clean the commutator. I also blow out the motor with canned compressed air after every sesion...Dean
