Bought a little play toy. I've had enough of the mechanical gyro. What small piezo gyro's are you guys using in these little toys? About how much should I plan on spending?

Thanks,

GY 240

I used to have one and I had a Futaba gy240 on it. Talk about a night and day difference. Definitely worth the money. If you look hard you can find them used for about $80-90. Also, tho I haven't tried it, I bet the Jr 410 would be good also. I did have to fabricate a little platform from balsa for the gyro to sit on but it worked great.

Good Luck

I built one for my nephew and put a Helimax micro piezo in it. It flies good for him because he never flew anything else. A collective pitch machine flies much better of course but the LMH is a good starter. He crashed it pretty hard one time and only lost some gears in two of the servos. The Norvell engine was a pain to get started and stay running in the beginning but now that its broken in it starts right up and runs good. Red Alert, 20% fuel.

I've played with the LMH, good to screw around with, and just got one for my Dad to learn on,he's kind of slow and they crash real well. plus the wood frame make for easy repair or quick rebuild for him. never broke one yet but I flew mine straight into the side of my barn, just knocked my gyro loose so flew it again. I used the helimax piezo gyro, thats all you need for the LMH but the gy240 may be cool. my recomendation though is to trash the engine and convert to 8 cell electric. flys much better, and I flew mine in the basement. a 17t atomic force mounts in direct replacement for the engine, with a 12t pinion has tons of power and about 5-6 minutes of flight. I liked electric only because they are very, very messy as gas, they are a pain to start, you don't use your good heli starter on these , oil everywhere. but for a beginner i believe they are the best trainer. you can crash over and over and just keep flying. the booms are repairable, don't know anyone who had to replace one, blades are almost indestructable, unless its under 25 degrees, then they are brittle. i did chip one when i hit the barn. it was about 10 degrees that day. also not real good in the wind because they are so light. get one till you can hover and do some basic FF then get something else, they will loop and roll, but not real pretty.

I never could get mine to pull out of a 180 stall turn.
Never tried a loop.

I've had 4 of these and changed to 4/4 grips in all, much better performance with higher head speed, don't think it would roll with the 6/6 grips, but 3 of the 4 I converted to electric. the 4th is for my dad to learn on, he runs it on any fuel we have, 15-20%wildcat runs good, and also 15% cp don't think fuel makes much difference on these. but just a idea for all you tinkerers out their, I saw 1 guy make new blade grips to reverse them so it would only fly inverted, he launched it by hand, and thats how he learned inverted. of course he crashed every landing, but didn't hurt it to much..............

I saw some pictures of that guy flying it did look kind of odd. As for the gyro mine worked great, you just have to make sure everything is loose almost falling apart loose and it will work as good as a Telebee, only more reliable.
