Almost done. Cockpit, spotlight and final mechanical testing/installation coming next. Mechs fly MUCH better with a GY240 than with the GY401. 401 is just not the right gyro for Hornets - even 3D. 240 is supreme.

Details: Hornet CP with Hacker 20-22, Phoenix 10, iRate 1300 3S 11.1 v pack, complete working lights and detailed cockpit. Cockpit illumination is with blacklight LED. Retracts are delayed to take a full 5 seconds to deploy. Here are the pics so far...

Looks great!
I just wish someone would make a scale fuse for the hornet II soon. I'd love to get one.

It's only a matter of time. Actually, this one would fit if you shortened the boom 1 cm - but I am not real sure about main to tail blade clearance.

yeah that's what i was thinking. Hoping by the summer there will be one. I don't really want to shorten the tail boom because it works great now.

btw i frequently visit your site to see any details that you may have done differently. Great site. Also helped me set up my transmitter...This is my first heli and i learned to hover in a week I couldn't do it without your example setups!

Wow, thanks. That stuff is so old though - I'm glad some of it is still relevant. I need to completely update my micro-heli/Hornet section with pics and new setup stuff. In the meantime, Eric Larson's site is keeping real current on what it takes to get a good flying 3D Hornet 2.

Hi Madman,

That looks beautifull !!
Is this the lexan body (JMD...JDM errrr)? I also have one but have not started it yet. Did you use CA to glue the halves together...for some reason Im scared to start

Yes, the lexan body, used CA only around the top. Filled seam with spot putty and sanded. Use some Shoe Goo around the opening's so that the stress from putting the mechs in (and removing for service), doesn't break the seem open.

Added window detail and searchlight. Tomorrow: final flight tests for mechs, add wipers and some outer detail and start working on the cockpit. Have to keep the weight there to less than 10 g I think.

That's pretty cool. When you put the mechs in can u take pictures of it going in? Do you just spread it open and squeeze it all in from underneath?

Yes - exactly. Then seal it with small wood screws.
