If anyone has any questions about the Hirobo Freya, please feel free to ask. I have two of them now, the second one is still under construction and will be ready to fly in a week or so.

Freya adjustable head

As I've already stated earlier in this thread the standard Freya will hover quite well. Those who own a Freya know there is a great deal of adjustability in the mixing ratios you can achieve to alter the characteristics of this machine. I had originally setup my first Freya with everything middle of the road, I didn't know what I would get at the time. I'd like to say publicly that I'm 3D challenged and lean toward the smooth lines of F3C and
like big stick movements on the transmitter to hide the shaking. So I finally get around to switching the seesaw (flipping) it to take advantage of more Hiller mixing, went through the head and checked and lubed everything. This Freya is getting close to 70-80 flights and needed some preventative maintenance anyway. All I can say is I found a Stepford helicopter hiding in there, the controls feel just right and the thing hovers without any drift for minutes at a time. That's only a slight amount of exaggeration, I'm very pleased with the feel and will take out some of the expo now.

Freya

Could you list your configuration? I'm interested in the Freya and would like recommendations on engine (leaning towards YS80H) and muffler. Thanks!

The freya engine

I will get a YS-80 when they are available from a US source in a month or so. The Freya is a very reliable system and the YS-61 is a great motor and hasn't skipped a beat yet. My expectation is the new YS-80 will work the same and produce a little more power. When you watch Todd Bennet fly his Freya with the 80, you rarely hear the motor get loaded, that is performance.

WC Decals

I pulled the standard Freya decal off and applied the Eagle SST Freya WC decal kit. These look the same as whats on the Freya EX. I really like the way this combination stands out and shows orientation very well. The tough part is putting these large decals on a bleach bottle canopy with compound curves. I ended up with with something that will look good in the air, but won't stand up to close scrutiny. I will add a picture after I borrow a friends digital camera.

The OS91 flies circles around the YS80. Much easier to tune also. Put a muscle pipe on it and its even better, although a little more sensitive to tuning. We have people at our field flying both set-ups in their Freya's and the 91 blows the YS and Webra away.

People say the Freya is super heavy and needs a bigger motor... Mine weighed 11 pounds empty with an OS91, very large muffler(that doubles as a female pleasuring device) and a governor/GY601 adding weight in the elcetronics dept. The Freya rocks!!!!!!!!

Big Motors

Mike,

How's the weather up there? The Freya heavy, nahhhh, it's those Fury guys spreading rumors again. I know the OS makes a few more ponies, but I only need just a little more, and I really like the YS pumper motors. I just checked the calendar for the Palomar Flyers, their Heli Fun Fly last year was at the end of February. I was a little concerned that the Las Vegas Fun Fly on February 1-3 would be in conflict.

Where would you rather be in February... Las Vegas with a pretty good chance that it'll be sunny, or SD where it's a toss up... Plus, if it ends up raining in vegas, we can still have fun with all the attractions. I might not be able to go... Gotta clear it with the other half...

Oh, back up in Seattle with the 30 degree cooler temperature, the OS was a lot more powerful. go figure...

Freya with WC decals

In a previous post, I talked about changing the standard Freya decals over to the WC decal kit. The decals are about $34 dollars, so I was a little concerned about getting them applied to the plastic Freya canopy. I would really hate to have gone to all that work and end up with a botched job. After I removed the old decals, I used straight Simple Green degreasing and cleaning stuff to clean up oil traces. Then I used kitchen dish soap and water just to make sure. I used Simple Green and water, mostly water to get a nice slippery surface to apply the decals to, this lets them float and lets you position them. Keep in mind these are large decals, 3 pieces, one nose cap, then the trailing side pieces. I did have to cut a small slice in the front because the compound curve won out in the battle of getting a flat decal to lay flat on a curve, hmmm. As they sit for a while they start to stick and I did have a few bubbles and a couple of edges that refused to stick. All of these parts of the decal got a thin film of Zap glue, followed by a paper towel to wick up the excess. Part two will no doubt have me cursing about having used the glue in the first place, and how hard the decals are to get off. In all honesty, the Freya does look better to me in the air. These old eyes are able to see some of the subtle changes in roll attitude now so I can enter the loops straight and have a much better chance of coming out right. Pictures of the bleach bottle with WC decals "coming soon".

Decals

Before you go to all the trouble of glueing the decals try going over them with a hair-dryer this will hold them so well you won't need the glue.

Standard Freya, but jazzed up

It's my regular Freya with the WC decal kit. I cut out the G10 tail fin to give those decals as much to stick to as possible. I found these are easier for
us old people to see, adds a nice touch don't you think?
