I have a lmh 110 and today I was trying to hover after trying to re-trim and all of a sudden it started to turn around very quickly and doing wierd things, fortunatly I was not that high and was able to land with out problem But when I started to check things out I found that the tail rotor servo would not move. I checked out the reciever thinking that maybe that was the problem but found that it worked with another servo.
Could it have possibly been the gyro?(century pg2000II) This is the second servo that has completly quit working I'm using Hitec
85bb.
Thank you for any input.

Does that servo have a "digital" switch on it? You don't want to have a gyro puting out a digital signal and have it attached to a non-digital servo. If you try that, the gyro can destroy the servo.

Did it strip the gears? The first flight with mine after putting a Hobbico mini piezo gyro in it the gears stripped in the tail servo. I had it mounted to the forward facing piece of the crutch just in front of the engine. I think there was too much vibration cause the gyro quit working also. It was a plastic gear servo, i think the 81. The one that comes with it. Anyway I replaced the gears with plastic ones and put the replaced from factory gyro up front next to the receiver and gave the heli to my nephew. I built it for him. He had 6 or 7 good flights on it when one of the training gear sticks fell out and caused him to crash. Then the gears stripped on the two cyclic servos. So I replaced all of them with metal gears and it seemed to work fine. For now.

PHi flier;
I'm sure that the servo was not stripped, It just does not work. I did mount the servo behind the engine like most of the ones I have seen. Could the Vibrations cause a malfunction??

Virtual1;
the servo does not have a digital switch on it, Does this mean that I need to get one for this application?

Thank you for your response

Yes, vibration is hard on servos. I haven't had a failure myself, but I would stake a guess that extreme or prolonged heavy vibration damages the small circuit board inside the gyro.

No, you don't need to get a different gyro. There are only two limitations with gyro-servo combinations: (1) if you have a gyro with a digital/standard switch, it must be in the standard position if you are using a non-digital servo, and (2) the GY601 has a special servo designed specifically for use with it, and that servo should not be used in any other application or with any other gyro. It's fine to use a digital or standard servo with a gyro that cannot provide a digital signal.

LMH

I had a LMH before my R50 and I fried the TR servo all the time. I had a Helimax Gyro. The reason you will continue to fry the little HS80/81 servo is because it is not up to the constant use that a gyro puts upon it. Ever feel the back of the TR servo after a flight? it gets quite warm/hot. The fix is to lengthen up the servo opening in the crutch by 1/4in towards the back, (the width is fine) and install a Futaba S148 servo (full size one). You can get these servos in bulk from most LHS for $10-$15. Those little stock servos are fine in other applications such as with the stock Altron Mech gyro, but as soon as you constantly work it with a Peizo Gyro you will cook it!!!

Thank you for your advise. I have never felt the servo after flying but it sound logical that with it working all the time it could do some damage.
Thank you again. I will try finding a Futaba.
