e-Electric Conversions > Voyager 50E (Airfoil) Questions.....

I picked up a Voyager 50 kit recently and I have started to build it.

I am going to the electric Voyager 50 E conversion that John at Airfoil offers.

John, are you out there?

I have a few short questions to all you Voyager 50 E owners out there:

1. If your using the 3300 nmh batteries,
---WHAT charger are you using at the field?
---WHich batteries are you using to charge with at the field?

2. How do you charger these 3300nmh packs at home?

3.How do you charge your field battery?

4. How do you start this machine with the AXI motor? I was talking with John and he mentioned a trick he used, but I didnt quite get it all...

thanks for your time.
This is my first time posting to this forum, I have to say I have been following it for quite some time now, and I continue to be amazed every day with the work that has been produced!.

Thanks!!!!
Dean

Electric

Voyager 50 electric:

1. I charge my 3300 mah pack using a Shulze Camaleon charger. I bought mine here : Shulze charger

I simply charge from my truck/car battery. Open the hood and connect the charger. Your car is there anyway

2. I charge the same way at home, except I have a deep cycle 12V marine battery in the shop. Takes about 45 minutes per battery.

3. Got a 12 volt battery charger from Home Depot for my shop battery. The car battery charges it self.

4. To start the Voyager, I simply spin up the blades with my finger (4 or 5 turns) so the AXI motor does not have to spool them up from a dead still. Then step a few steps back an slowly ad power. Dont slam the throttle, but let the chopper slowly build up speed in order to keep the tail steady. (Takes about 10 seconds for the entire operation).

That's how i do it... There may be better ways, but it works for me. I have four battery packs, so I pretty much always have a full pack available.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add something in case someone finds it via a search.

Another way to start the Airfoil Voyager 50 E is via trim. This way you don't have to spin it up by hand. When you add trim, it starts up more slowly. Then, once it is spun up you can use your throttle like normal.
