Anyone with experience cleaning up the powder from the extinguisher?? Vacuum seems the most logical, but is the powder grain fine enough to pass through the filters and get tossed back up into the air via the exhaust?? Thanks for any help....

Hear say only, but I heard that you use a wet/dry vac.

Fill the bucket with water to just below the filter. This makes a kind of water trap and keeps it from going straight throgh the filter.

Get or borrow a hose or 2 for a built in vac. Then you can place the vacuum outside and run the hose in through a door or window.

Here is another wacky ideal only a Canadian would dream up. Remove the fan from your furnace, don't forget to turn off the power first, stick it into a window so it will draw the air out. Double up a couple of those air masks that drywaller people wear, don saftey glasses. Now go to town on it with a leaf blower. Speaking from experience on cleaning up the powder from the aftermath of one of those dry chemical extinguishers, even when you think your done.........................there will be more. Get a CO2 extinguisher for the workshop and fireplace, they don't leave such a mess. Great job by the way of extinguishing the fire.

Seems a little extreme, but I truly appreciate your thoughts....
Luckily I can box off the room by closing the doors and my shop has multiple windows....I like the vacuum outside with a long hose runing through a window idea. I just need to get some masks for the process and I'm "going in" Paul

Clean up

I'm a janitor at a hospital. We had a (confused) patient grab a fire extinguisher and redecorate the unit he was on. The clean up was about 30 minutes with 4 people. It was all hard surface floor so we just SLOWLY swept it up then used dust pans. If your cleaning off carpet then the outside vac would be my first choice. A bit of water in a wet vac might help but I think it would only work well if the incoming air enters the vac chamber under water.
Best of luck in your clean up, Glad to hear you and yours are safe.

All I can suggest is clean it up **fast**. A number of years ago, we had to let one off in a workshop, and did not get the power off the tools (did not look like much . . . ) for a week or two, and they all got corroded and pitted.

The Vac used to clean up copy machines have a hepa filter and will remove anything from the air passing through.
