I have a hacker C40 9L in my voyager e. I know a lot of people run the C40 8L in there voyagers. I really don't know what all the numers mean except for the L (long) Would the 9 and the 8 be the number of turns? What about the C40, B40, C50 etc..

Also I am running a 16 tooth pinion that I think is from a traxxas car or truck and wonder if there is a pinion I can get that meshes better with the main gear or if this is what everybody uses THANKS

The B40 or C40 in the 8L configuration, is the one to have for the VE.
Of late, many of the dealers (I suspect because of not being able to get the 8L easily) are pushing any wind motor (9,10 12, etc.) that they can get to make a sale. While these other winds will work, the optimum has proven to be the aforementioned two motors.

The big difference in the two are the C40 has a heat sink built in and bolts onto the stock motormount directly, while the B40 is slightly lighter, requires a slip-on heatsink (available from Hacker) and requires a slight modification to the stock motor mount or an aftermarket mount that is usually a machined aluminum piece.

The alternative motor seems to be the AstroFlight 020 that they package especially for the VE with ESC and all for about $200.
I haven't tried one of these (I fly the B40-8L, and have for over 2 years now) but it reportedly will bolt right up and comes with an integral heatsink like the C40. It is also quite light.

Well I must have the b40 9L then because it is a slip on heatsink. I bought it used and the sticker is off ( I would guess to put the heatsink on) It there any other way of telling?

When I look at the hacker site here http://www.hackerbrushless.com/moto...pplication.shtm it says they recommend the B40 9L for the voyager e? Will the 9L be a little better for duration and the 8L for power?

You got it !

The 8 is more for 3D and the 9 for duration. I think both the 8 and 9 are better with 10 cells.

I have the C40-10s and use it on 8 cells. Its not as hot as the 8 or 9 but works well with a smaller cell pack.
