e-JR Voyager E > stock Voyager E can't do any aerobatics?

Hi, I am planning to get JR Voyager E as my first heli (yes, 100% newbie). I've read the review from rcuniverse.com and they commented that they had a hard time to do any aerobatics with the stock setup. Is that true to most of you ? In order for Voyager E to do any 3D aerobatics, what do I need to upgrade later? Brusless motor and Lipo's ? Thanks!

Hi,

To be realistic, you will probably have destroyed your first VE before you get to 3D moves, but lets hope not.

The VE will do loops and rolls in stock form.
To be fully 3D, you need few upgrades. Try searching this forum and especialy http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php.
The Rc Groups board is for electrics and many VE owners hang out there. That is the best place for VE discussions.

You can go with a brushless motor and a couple of easy linkage adjustmanents as a first step. Even if you are not yet into 3D I would still go for the brushless motor. I use a hacker 40-10c with 8 cells. This is a cheap but good solution. More cells and a more powerfull motor are good for 3D but not needed in the beginning.

I have also moved to a longer boom and 460mm Carbon blades. Do a search for the VE 'stretch' modification on RC Groups for more info or email me for details.

I would stay away from LiPo's for a while as they don't crash well. A small meeting with the ground and you can trash $$$ in LiPo cells. The NiMh are durable and cheap.

Good luck and I'm sure that you will enjoy your VE.

Hi Voyager,

yes, I guess I would probably crash my first VE before I can do any 3D anyway....of course I hope not (but virtually impossible) ....
So, which ESC you are using with your HACKER 40-10c? Thanks!

Hi,

I have a Hacker ESC and the UBec for the Rx.
I got a package from http://www.fxaeromodels.com/
they had a good selection and some good combo deals. I notice that they don't have much right now as far as packages.
I wanted a different ESC but FX had a package that saved by some $$.

I'm curious why you want to start out on an electric?

I like my VE but for serious progress I usually fly my Voyager 50. Its more stable and longer flight times.
The VE is a little harder to fly but it does teach you to manage collective and fly in a more 'correct' way as you can't power your way out of trouble.
The VE is suprisingly stable in modreate winds and lots of fun.
I would go with a good gyro such as the Futaba 401. It works well in HH mode but don't use the gyro mounting location that the manual sugggests. Almost everyone has had problems with that location. Mount a plate over the tail boom and put it there. I can email pics if required. The Rx tray is also a good location.

Hi Voyager. Yes, i know the bigger the better and more stable for learning. The reason I pick electric is that I HATE noise and tuning engine stuffs. I had very bad experience in 1:10 RC and buggy, I screwed both of my engines. Also, the heli size is another big consideration for me since I have to carry my heli to take public transportation to the flying field poor me. If there's any good pick beside JR VE (small to medium size AND electric), please let me know. I also consider the EOLO Spirit Pro aswell, but it seems to me that EOLO Pro is not very good for beginner thou. Thanks!
