Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Zyclone Costs?

I am wondering what a complete setup would cost? (mech and turbine) I am considering the world of jets but I don't know anyone with any experience. Any suggestions?

I agree with the Jetcopter SX ... very good starting point .... otherwise look at Len Mounts pod/bom heli .....

Turbine Heli

Why not look further and convert your own model, using the Baileys gearbox and Wren MW54 engine,

Jr Sylphide has been converted and looks great Have a look.

Hi
sorry I can't help with your question
but I am also considering getting into turbine helis
and I currently have a Cuatro that I believe there is a conversion kit availabe for it which uses the mw 54 engine
otherwise i like the vario jetcopter

the main question I want to know is after downloading a few short vids of the mw54 engine running it sounds weird like someone off a movie stranded at sea frantically trying to tune a radio and hearing nothing but interference, I believe this noise is caused by the second stage turbine comming up to speed.
can some please tell me how they sound for real as on the video I don't really like it the hp5 seems to have a much better note
thanks cheers Michael

The distortion is due to the volume and frequency of the noise kind of overloading the mic. A bit like if you shout into a mic it distorts like crazy. In real life the turbines sound very sweet indeed.. well... like a turbine really. Having heard both free and turboshaft setups fly one after the other I couldn't really notice much difference TBH - I suppose I'm not a turbine flyer though Got to say though that Bailey's g'box would be my choice for a cuatro conversion - small, and neat.

The cuatro conversion done by Dick Wallanger (sp?) of Midland Heli uses pretty much just the top module and tailboom from the original mechanics from what I've seen. I think, by the time you've got all the conversion parts, engine etc. you may as well have bought a whole new heli and leave the Cuatro as a gasser.

I did actually measure things up and I worked out some dimensions so I could mod the mechs to take a turbine (MW54 and gearbox) with some inginuity and custom spacers etc. I would love to try but haven't got the spare cash at this moment in time!

Turbine sound

Hi, Mike Bailey here. I would like to do the conversion for the Cuatro to fit my box and engine if there is enough market for it!!! Infact any conversion I am interested in.

The sound problem is if you downloaded it from my site it is highly compressed. I will put and good quality mp3 file for download soon.

The twin shaft system actually sounds like the real thing as the engine changes in RPM throughout its flight, I.E. to gain more power the core engine spins from 110,000RPM at hover to approx 130,000RPM at full climb out, The engine can go to 160,000RPM but this is far too much power for my test rig which has 1780 Blades on with about 14deg pitch.
Also you don't hear quite as much air with this system as the core engine is a "gas generator" type therefore not supplying such High speed air (thrust) so the engine whistling is more prominent!!!!.

I hope there is enough information there to answer your questions if not the please don't hesitate in contacting me

P.S. Here is the JR Sylphide which one of my friends has converted locally, what do you think??

That Sylphide is very nice but I thought the X-treme conversion was good as well - especially since it looks to have been your flying testbed!

Man, I've got to get a turbine someday

Thanks guy's this has really answered my questions
just a matter of saving up a whole lot more cash to fund a turbine heli
I have not had my cuatro very long so I will leave with the zenoah in there
they are sweet machines without a turbine anyway
thanks again
Cheers Michael
