Good chance you have a disk error. Are you running XP or 98 or...?
If 98 then restart to MSDOS and type scandisk at the prompt..hit enter, let it check your drive(s) for errors. Don't bother with surface test if your short on time If it finds any let it fix them (usually just discard lost fragments, not much will be recognizable anyways), reboot and try defrag again. You could check them within windoze but DOS finds and fixes more problems.
If XP open My Computer, open the drive giving you trouble, right click on open space in the window, choose properties then click the tools tab then error checking. Again let it fix any errors and try defrag again. |
