I live on the river and was wondering if anyone knows how I can attach little rockets onto my heli. I was thinking of using rocket engines and hooking them to servo to fire and make the fins out of balsa. ANyon have any ideas.

P.S. I am not interested in anyone telling me this is dangerous. So please preach somewhere else. I will be firing them over water into water.

Thanks

it is stupid and dangerus. thats what makes it fun!

I made rocets like this when i was 15-16 years.
bye rocets from estes. (http://www.estesrockets.com/)
i will advise you to use the smal but powerfulle A10-3T
Product ID: 1511
it have 1kg trust power (alot for 25 g) or the bigger one D12-0
Product ID: 1665
that provides 1.2 kg of trust but is much bigger than the other one.

the A10-3T ist most scale right fore the 50 size. and they are cheeper.
another thing they came with electric ignition as standart. use a tube or somthing to controll them at launch.

make alot of testings before you mount them on your chopper. othervise it vill be fried. the small one have a 60cm long tail of fire i dont know with the d engine. they require a special license in germany. and are forbidden in denmark where i live.

OK

I did it long before I found out AMA had banned it and Estes Rocket motors work nicely in this application BUT be aware your AMA insurance is null and void if you do this.

Yer gunna get yelled at!

I was thinking of doing this, and would have went the 9v battery with model rocket ignitors approach. You will need to make the servo close a look that will ignite the ignitor, and launch the rocket.. Shouldn't be too hard to sketch something up.

I used roman candles once, but I just lit them on the ground, then took off..

Vario has sold these for years... They are pre made, just slap them on the
bottom of your heli and you are good to go. Below is a a cut and paste copy from Vario's web site. -Steve

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rocket launcher is a unique VARIO development, and provides the means of fitting out your AIRWOLF or other helicopter with a working rocket system. The three firing pins are set beforehand, then a separate servo is used to actuate them in sequence. A 6 mm explosive cartridge then fires a small mortar, wailer or Light cartridge. The rocket launcher is made of aluminum, and is fitted with three hardened firing pins. It is supplied ready to install, but without the explosive parts. Persons of 18 years or older can obtain these in any sporting gun shop.

If you have a really big heli, I'll loan you this one:

Fuel for a launch costs about $400. Interested?

By the way, the dangers of a rocket launch (even with the little ones) are not limited to the actual flying of the rocket. As soon as you arm the electric ignitor, the rocket can fire inadvertantly. This can happen on the ground during run-up, for example. Remember this when you choose a take off site, and the route to the river.

just remember o use AA size batterys or a rechargebal 9v battery. a standart 9v alkaline can't deliver enough juice (Power) to ignite the system. othervise use 5 AAA size cells
