I'm scheduled to have Lasik eye surgery tommorrow, I just can't stand to wear glasses another day. Just curious if any of you nearsighted people have had it done and did it effect your depth perception.

had it done 2 yrs ago

and take my eyesight for granted now.

During the procedure, you'll experiencie some "unusual" sensations such as when they cut the flap (they need to "sqeeze" your eyball before a mini saw blade makes the cut). There are other phases where you may panic.

RELAX- I think and chant to myself the following whenever I feel like panicing:

1) "Thousands of people have done this- you are not going to die so just relax..."

2) "This is 10 minutes of your life that is uncomfortable- a small percentage of your total life, so just deal with the uncomfortable smell of your eyball being lazered..."

3) These unusual sensations are just nerves, axioms, cells just giving off chemical reactions your brain is recieving. Nothing more- you aren't going to die..."

Keep focused on the laser dot as to not screw up the lazer mapping and you'll be fine. I have 20/20 vision with no unusual or obvious after effects- and since it's all computerized, little room for doctor error. Good luck!

You can see right after the operation, but a little cloudy due to the irritation of the operation. You probably can go to work the next day, although I did mine over the weekend, giving me time to rest.

"What was your vision before?"
20/200

Before you get your eyes done, at night, look at headlights, streetlights, etc. The reason I say this is that some people are worried about "night artifacts". My response is "You have normal vision right? Can you see well at night? Do you see halos around points of light? It's all normal too you right now. Why should it be abnormal after a lazic?!?"

thanks for the info My vision is currently 20/200 My job is flying planes, so I doubt I could go to work the next day but if i could be ready in 5 days or so that would be great. I'm gonna look for a place to get this done.

Wel i hod at don an d evryhing cam e ot perft
Just kidding, for all you guys/gals that are considering it...I give it a thumbs up. The actual slicing of the cornea and Laser treatment was PAINLESS although when they vacuum your eyeball up to actually perform the surgery was a little painful... but the Valium soon makes everything ok... Today is day 2 and I can see basically everything although at times its blurry and out of focus, no where close to taking off my glasses and trying to see. If you have the means, do it...I'm very happy I did

I did it a year ago. It is GREAT!

The only thing that I feel is bad is that my eyes seem to be dry all of the time. Eye drops fix that...

Please - everyone, GO to a GOOD establishment to get Lasik done. The $300-$500 jobs may be OK, but just be sure to have an extra set of eyes with you!

Drunk,
You probably have a astigmatizm (? spelling is wrong I think)... this is completely repairable..and is no different than having nearsighted vision corrected...you should go check it out... Paul
