Has any one had problems with the stock motor + speed controller setup. I'm having trouble keeping it hovering for more than 10seconds before it dies. I'm using NiMh 3000mAh packs. I'm just getting the comutator skimed at the moment. Any other ideas?

Generally, that combination should be good for 5-7 minutes with a fully charged battery. Make sure your getting a good cycle from your charger.

Other things to check...your throttle curve...it should be at 85% or more for all flight phases. Anything less and the motor is working WAY to hard. Make sure your not asking for too much pitch too soon....the VE should hover at around 6 degrees with the stock motor/pinion combo. Make sure your headspeed isn't too low...1500 is a reasonable starting point but more is better (you won't get much more than 1600 from the stock motor...at least not for very long). If the heli is wobbling fore and aft the headspeed is too low.

Give those a try and see if they help.

Hi,

I had the same problem a couple of times ... The problem was cured when I "hardwired" the stock motor to the controller leads (soldered) and soldered the battery connetor leads that are on the controller ... As delivered they were simply crimped on. I'm using the stock motor and controller, and 8 cell Cermark 3300mAH batteries. Be sure to use shrinkable tubing to insulate the soldered joints on the motor.
