e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > LOGO 10 good for beginner?

Hi,

I currently own a fixed pitch ECO Piccolo micro heli.
I mostly fly it indoors and can manage a confortable stable hover and small circuits around the living room (landing on small tables and stuff).
This week-end I tried it outside but it's really a tricky little beast...the slightest gust of wind throws it all over the place which is quite a challenge for a newbie like me...

So I'm considering stepping up to a collective pitch heli for my outdoor action and the Piccolo Pro was my first thought, considering that I'm familiar with the design. On second thoughts, I considered a larger sized heli such as ECO 8 / 16 but I've also heard a lot of good things about LOGO 10.

Is LOGO 10 good for a beginner in CP heli?
What are the most suitable kits / deals and were should I order them from? (I live in France btw)
Most common upgrades?

Thanks

The Logo 10 is an excellent choice for an electric CP kit. Weather your a beginner or a pro this helicopter can do it all. This helicopter is easy to fly and it is stable even in high wind.

The best thing to get would be the Logo 10 3D kit. It has most of the upgrades you will end up buying later on down the road. It also comes with FG blades which you will need anyway. The regular kit doesn't come with any blades. Have a look at this link and you can look at wgat the 3D kit comes with and see that it's way cheaper to go with this instead of buying the extra parts later. http://www.fxaeromodels.com/logo.htm After you get to this page scroll down a little and you will see the kit. It cost $479.00 USD and they have them in stock. The shipping cost aren't that bad. I order things from them all the time and I live in Australia. This place also has them in stock too. http://www.helihobby.com/html/logo_...r_products.html I order things from them all the time as well. Shipping with them might be a little cheaper. I'm sure there are other places that sell this kit, but I've had great service from these two, so I usually buy my electric helicopter things from them.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thanks for quick reply and links!

I now what you mean with getting the fully upgraded version instead of being all individual options afterwards: that's exactly what I did with my piccolo and I basically changed everything except the frame and a few minor parts... Cost me about twice the initial price too !
So I'll definitely consider the 3D version to start!

Another question I had:
I'm a recently converted lithium-polymer addict. These beauties really are the most important upgrade to my Piccolo yet : 25 minutes autonomy, incredible power, etc...
Are lithiums still worth it on a larger, less weight-sensitive heli, such as the LOGO 10? What type of pack would be necessary for this application? (3s2p? or more? pretty expensive though...)

Thanks

A good set up for LiPo's would be a Hacker C50-13L, Hacker Opto 48-3P ESC or Schultze Future 18.46k ESC and TP 8000 mAh 4S4P. You can order the batteries from here http://www.helihobby.com/html/batteries.html After you get to there scroll about half way down the page and you will see it. They are about the cheapest I can find them for anywhere. They cost $285.00 for 1 pack. They also sell the motor and ESC there too.

Cheers, Patrick

Good advice, Patrick.

Xeul.

The setup Patrick provided is versatile and will also work on NiCd or NiMH cells in a pinch. If you really want to go for the best performance though, people are moving to high voltage 8s2p and even 10s2p LiPo setups with low Kv motors.

If you are able to fly the Piccolo around a but you are definitely ready for the Logo. You will find it so much more stable and easier to fly. You're gonna LOVE it.

Hello

If you are just learning then I suggest that you stay away from LiPoly because if by chance you dump your copter you dont have a 30o dollar repair bill on top of the cost to repair the heli. The Fun600-15 is a good motor on a 14 cell Nicad or Nimh pack. And when you get more advanced move up to a 5s3p LiPoly pack and your heli will come to life. Im using the 15 with a 5s3p pack and a 14 tooth pinion and my Logo has more power than any 30 sized nitro I have flown.

If you want to see what comes in the LOGO 10 3D kit, have a look at http://rcheli.dyndns.org

There's a kit contents page, parts list, etc.

I bought a Logo 10 after my piccolo and found it easy to fly. But it is expensive to repair and uses odd size blades (500-515mm) which are more expensive. The frames broke on the two crashes I had which cost over $50 by themselves. I bought a raptor and made a lot more progress. If you are committed to electrics, then the Logo will serve you well. Or you could get a raptor and convert it to electric. Search RR and you will find lots of people doing it. It may cost a bit more than the logo to start, but repair bills for the airframe are a lot lower.

If you plan to wait until Spring, you might want to consider the new Logo 14 comming out? It's going to have a carbon tail boom brace, carbon frames, carbon tail fins, split gear driven tail, a Logo 24 head, new canopy design, etc. Don't know how much it will cost, but I'm sure it will be like the Logo 24 Bionic price range. Here is a link to look at it. http://www.mikado-heli.de/en/logo14/index.htm
