Phoenix-IT: I tried to order the torque tube drive today and they are backordered "for probably a few weeks".

Anyone know who might have one in stock for the Hawk IV?

Thanks,

Derek

Scotter,

Both kits I purchased have a flat notch cut into the wire drive at the opposite end of the flat side. The drive gear aligns to the flat spot for the set screw, where the flat end goes into the front drive gear. The end of the wire that has the notch cut into it is round. It will not fit into the front drive gear. I have ground a second flat spot on the drive wire to accept a second set screw. I think this will keep it from spinning plus I will keep a close eye on the set screws. I hope to be flying by the weekend. It truly is a great flying machine. I've been flying my trusty ole backup in its absence (Nexus). Thanks for the help. Howie

Hawk Drive Wire

E2C_Mech

If you put a flat on both sides i suggest you throw that wire in the trash and replace it.The instructions say to file only one side and to remove at least1/4 of the material.I am sure if you did both sides it it now going to be to weak to trust. Crash over a one dollar part??? I THINK NOT, NO WAY NOT ME.

To the guy that said the wire breaks.I was wondering what kind of gyro was used on these machines?I kinda doubt the wire can handle the beating dished out by todays heading hold gyros.......

Better safe than sorry.......Just My 2 Cents

Wasp,

I've heard that one can make a carbon tube drive out of certain types of carbon arrow shafts. That would make a replacement less than twelve dollars, if you can find an archery dealer that'll sell you one shaft at a time. Even if you had to buy a half-dozen (the usual minimum purchase) it would probably only cost $50 or so.

I plan on looking into this idea when I crash my Raven the first time.
