My wife and I have run into a bit of a delema. We are remodeling our bathroom and are trying to decide on what to do about the tub/shower. Initially, we looked at tubs with matching surrounds. The very few that we seem to like are about $900 +/-. I can get an American Standard acrylic whirlpool tub and build a ceramic tile surround for between $800 - $900. Niether of us have ever had a whirlpool tub and are wondering if we will use it often and are concerned about durability. Do any of you have a whirlpool tub and what are your opinions on it? Are you glad you got one? Thanks for the help, 'cause this is the last piece of the bathroom puzzle to address and we're hung up on if its worth it or not.

i wold reccommend it highly, however you will need a larger or maybe another water heater just for the jacuzzi, i went with an additoinal water heater, i believe 80 gals. c-ya Ron

Please cancel my clearance, I have the field in sight.

I've had a jetted tub in my last house and one in my current house.

I use it about 4 times a year and I think my wife uses it for the same amount or less. Once in a great while we will use it together but they are too small to be worthwhile and I would say they are a novelty that will wear off quickly. A hot tub might go a little longer before you mothball it but then you can have a lot more fun in one of those.

Spend the money on a HUMONGOUS two person shower with two shower heads. You'll get a lot more use out of that EVERY DAY. I would trade my jetted tub for that in a heartbeat.

I had one and I miss it a lot. I used it every Sat. morning. It really helped my back problem. Hot water and a couple of heli magazines and a "pinch' of Skoal and a spit cup, I was set for an hour.

My wife and I installed one in our addition and LOVE it !!!, we use it probably 2 or 3 times a week, usually together. we also put in a larger water heater (82 gal.). if you can possibly afford one I would say go with for it, I also have a large 4 ft shower stall and am glad I put it in also. the wife and I use the time in the tub together to get re-aquainted with each other and have some wonderfull talks with each other. I work 2 jobs and she runs the house and our business so we don't have alot of time to spend together other than in our own little resort.

I would suggest not wasting your money on the whirpool tub. The are too small to really enjoy together and are usually the jets are not strong enough to be or real "theraputic" use. I would suggest getting a real "spa" for outdoors something along the lines of "Sundance" or "Hotsprings". They are big enough for up to 7-8 people and the jets are strong enough to be or real theraputic quality. I have the Sundance Cameo and the whole family really enjoys it year round. Nothing like soaking in a spa with the snow on the ground...

Thanks for all the responces!!! It looks like we are going to do a 60" shower. Flatspin, funny you mention the real "spa" option. We talked about that last night and came to the conclusion that an outdoor spa would be better for our needs. The spa will have to hold off untill July or August so I can finish a 3000 gal pond that I'm building this summer. I looked at my design for the pond and I can make some modifications to put a spa next to the waterfall that will feed the pond. Thanks again for the opinions and I can finally finish this bathroom!

Tub

Out of the hundreds of customers that I have built homes for I would say I have put in whirlpool tubs. When I ask them If they enjoy their tubs 95% of them say they don't even use them. When I custom build a home for clients most now go to a 2-person shower with a full body spray . A lot of homeowner think that it necessary to have a tub in the master bath, not so. Ask your wife If she will use it once a week and use that as your answer.
