Hello. I am new to this hobby and I just built a Raptor 30. I still have not been able to start it. It seems that when ever I try to start it, the cooling fan unscrews from the engine and jams into the bell. Has anyone encountered this problem???? If you have any suggestions please let me know.

The engine I have is a OS 32SX, with the standard plastic cooling fan. I have used locktite on the treads of the nut that holds the fan down but the locktite seal breaks.

Take the carb off and stick an old plastic tooth brush or wood dowel down the throat to stop the crank from rotating. Now, clean the threads, blue Loctite them real good and tighten that nut. Check to make sure nothing went down the throat that wasn't supposed to, before putting the carb back on.

Your not tightening the nut tight enough. Take the back plate off the engine and use a wood clothes pin to "jam" the crank pin. (prefer this to the tooth brush handle in the carb opening) If you use lock tight use only "blue"

I had the same problem.. I used blue locktite on my fan threads as well as the nut that holds it all on. I simply put the fan on and made sure there was no play up or down on the crankshaft with the fan on, then I grabbed my socket wrench, wrapped the fan with a hand towel and grabbed the fan with my other hand using the cloth and used the wrench to tighten it really good. I didn't have to stick anything in the motor. Be carefull not to bend or break the fan fins...
