Hi there,

I am wondering what are:

"soft start brushless motors"

and

"non - soft start brushless motors"

thanks.

Soft start is feature of ESC not motor ... motor does not care about that. Soft start is very good feature, especially heli's gear really like it.

ESC without soft start and gears will need a "dentist"

so, its a feature of the speed control, thanks.

But, what are the differences in these features?

Why does it benifit heli pilots?

thanks,

The difference is in startup sequence. You can try it with any e-glider. AC engines with "normal" ESC has troubles with low rpms, most of ESC has a quite big jump at the low limit of stick - it means that AC motor start at 500rpm or so and it is a big shock for gear (normal propeler in e-airplane) does not care about that.

Heli need really "soft" start of the engine, otherwise gear will be stripped. I have tried JETI non-heli prototypes two years ago in ECO8 and the result was damaged free wheel as well as some teeth gone on main gear ...

So, I hope I have explained that topics - the benefit for the is gear-friendly environment and little bit lower probability of the next crater in the airfield, beacause of the gear malfunction ... ;o)

I think "zapa" said all important. Just a short note that of course the same apply for motor stop. For example original ECO8 out of the box has no free wheel and therefore rotor energy when you shut down your motor is able to damage gears as well. In this case soft stop is much more better but of course free wheel is nice to have anyhow (autorotation).
