After having put about 10 tanks through my Sceadu the main blades are going severly out of track several times each tank for approx. 5-10 seconds. The whole machine shakes, then quickly returns to a completely smooth hover or forward flight. I have tried two different sets of glass blades (correctly balanced) to no avail. I am using 9202's on the collective and cyclics and have double checked that the thrust bearings are installed correctly. There is no perceptable binding in the head and the metal servo mount supports that come with the kit have been installed from day one. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi pal, I also observed this strange out of tracking situation last weekend while watching another pilot fly his Sceado. I pulled and wiggled the head and it seemed solid but it did this several times so something is definatly wrong, wish I could help ya but since I dont own the heli I didnt get to tear down and inspect. It will be interesting to see the fix, on the Rappy it meant better mains and/or bladegrip reversal. The Sceado has a few bugs hopefully they will get ironed out.

Tighten the screws holding the collective servo . Make sure they are very tight and the brass eyelets are not installed. Also make sure the linkage from the collective servo is on the arm correctly.(It should be to the inside.) I have yet to understand how tightening the screws so tight makes a difference but it does , it also cancels out the vibration dampening effect of the rubber grommets.
Check the feathering spindle, it may bent after the blades went that far out of track. I bent 2 spindles before I made the above changes.

JPBILL,
I haven't checked the feathering spindle and I do have my collective linkage on the outside of the servo arm...... I must have overlooked this in the instructions. I'm going to check the spindle, swap the collective linkage to the inside, and tighten the servo screws. I'll fly it this afternoon and let you know how it does.

Thanks for the input guys!

Also Check

Also check that you are using the supplied aluminum servo mount top plates. These should be used without the brass eyelets installed. Not using these will cause flutter as well. Also check for any loose points in the collective system. IF you still have a problem, give me a shout.

I had EXACTLY this problem on my Sceadu when it was new. Much to my amazement, the problem was the scews holding the collective servo. They were tight, but not tight enough. When I really cinched them down, the problem went away and has not returned since after many gallons of fuel. That's very likely the culprit. Check that FIRST!

Well guys,
The feathering spindle checked out O.K., so I put the collective linkage on the inside of the servo arm and tightened the servo mounting screws as tight as possible without stripping the plastic frame.
The first tank was trouble free other than a new vibration. But, on the second tank the blades again went out of track after returning to a hover from a steep descent. I have also noticed excessive slop in the entire control system.... maybe caused by the extreme vibrations from the blades going out of track???

Up to this point the machine has been super smooth as all rotating parts have been balanced using a High Point. I plan to take it down tonight and look for anything unusual.

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep 'em coming.

Oh yea, I do have the aluminum sevo top plates installed.

What blades are you running ? If they are wood change them out for fiberglass or carbon.

I am running CMT 550 glass blades now. I tried the 570's that came with the kit and had the same problem.

Also, I am not using a standoff on the servo arm.

Well I took the entire head apart last night and didn't see anything unusual.

I flew two tanks through it today without ANY problems??? Nice and smooth with no fluttering or vibrations.

Maybe by disassembling and reassembling the head I tightened a few parts that had loosened up?

All's well that ends well!

Thanks again for the input!
