I have a 2 cell LiPo 1200 mah
It will charge to 8.4 v but the mah will only go to 550mah
is it trashed or salvagable?
and if it can be saved or recharged how?
I have a triton charger

We need more information. Does it only put 550 mah back into the battery after use, or does the charger only go up to 550 mah during charge?

As d_wheel said, we need a few more details. But, I do have one idea and that is, have you set the charge time-out setting to an appropriatly high setting. Remember, it will take 2-3 hours to get a full charge into LiPo pack. If your time-out is too low, the charger will terminate too soon.

It only puts 550 mah back in
shouldnt it be closer to 1200mah?
I charge at 1.2va 7.5v

Well, that depends on how much you are discharging from the battery. Maybe you are only using 550 of the 1200 mAh when you fly with the pack.

Were you at 6V when you started charging?
Also the Triton is not a very agressive charger in Li mode. Mine timed out,so I had to increase the timer. The triton just charges a little slow in Li mode.

I put the batt in my hummingbird and flu it till it wouldnt fly any more , about 7 min then I let the batt run down alittle more.The batt got very hot!!!
Charged it again and it put 990mah this time

How fo you increase the timer with a lipo batt?

should I charge at a lower amp?

Don't discharge any lithium pack like a nicad.
On a 7.4v pack The voltage shouldn't go below 5.5v or you will harm the battery! Also when charging they should never be hot!!

Lithiums and the Triton Charger..

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the Triton. It does a poor job of charging both Lithiums and Lead Acid Batteries.

I had two sent to me from Hobby Services before I gave up and got my money back. All three chargers were terrible.

Try a Orbit Microlader or a Schulze....they are much better.

Need More Information, Generally to make sure the Packs is originally comes with needed capacity.

What motor are you using? It sounds like you have a brushed motor and it is turning into a power resistor as the magnets fail. If your motor isn't failing, your setup may draw too much current. If your batteries are getting hot you are drawing WAY too much current. Stop running that motor and/or setup NOW.
