e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Lama XRB Tail Problem

Hi All

I have a new Lama XRB, that when I first flew out of the box, it was very stable and the tail was solid with no drift. After a couple of days (and a couple of minor crashes and blade changes) it doesn't seem to be quite so stable. After I have been flying for about a minute, the nose of the Lama swings to the right. If I give it full left stick, it will slowly come back round and then I usually land. It seems to do this all of the time now. I have tried changing all of the blades, but this has not helped. I have also noticed it is very difficult to get the blade tracking right. One blade seems to go out of track as I increase the head speed. I have trimmed the rudder, making sure both LEDs are off when the Lama is on the ground.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

check the manual on tweaking the gyro...

you need to adjust the upper blades..

Also check the adjustment of the blade pitch on the A blades my buddies was like that and adjusting the pitch after a hard crash solved all the problems.

This isn't a blade pitch issue

As you are aware, the XRB uses counter rotating blades to offset the torque produced by the upper and lower main rotors. When one motor turns slower or faster than the other, this causes the XRB to pirouette either left or right. Idealy, during normal hovering, the motors are turning at exactly the same speed which is a zero pirouette rate.

To fix this problem, sometimes the armature in the can of the motor gets a bit dry inside and a drop of Tri-Flow or similar low viscosity oil on the armature at the top of the motor should be enough to remedy this situation. It has worked for me and I don't have the problem anymore. In other words, oil the motor!

Also, the lower rotor can sometimes slip off the striated portion of the outter main shaft and when this happens it is the same as losing your tail rotor on a regular heli. If this happens simply slip it back on and possibly re-tighten the screws to prevent it from slipping off again.

or when one set of blades has more pitch than the other the heli will swing left or right...

His blade tracking problem shows he has this issue

As I said... RTFM

Different blades put different loads on the motors and interact differently. Trims and some settings can change. Go thru the tail set up steps.

1) put the heli on the table, center the trim, adjust the rudder pot (1st one) so that the led goes out when turned. This is the gyro electric center.

2) hover the mini lama and see if the tail stays centered. IF not adjust the pitch angle screws on the top rotor head. If the heli yaws left, turn the screws OUT or LEFT 1 turn ea and refly. If still yawing adjust until it stops. If the heli yaws to the right, turn the pitch angle adjustment screws IN or Right 1 turn at a time until the yaw stops. This adjustment will also give the same left/right piro feel.

If the heli still yaws, you may have a broken gyro or a TX box that has a dirty contact which can happen and if the heli came thru us, we can service it for you at no charge. Just send it back in to us and we will warranty it for you. No problem. We too want you to be able to play with your 300 toy.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Thanks
