e-Lite Machines Corona > Blade balancer question

Hello, today I recieved the Koll KSJ528 Blade balancer and discovered that it wasn't built for Corona blades. The Koll has vertical pins to mount blades on the balancer, the Corona's are horizontal. I called where I ordered it, and he stated that was definately a problem, but I might want to try to make something to make it work. So, after some thought I tried my left-over 6 point grips. I noticed that if I bore-out the holes to the size of the Corona blade, I can put a bolt through it and the blades, and the extra plastic at the end of the grip will hold the wieght of the blade in place. So, what my question is--If I'm using two 6-point grips to balance the blades and then install the blades on my heli, which has two 4-point grips, will there be a problem? I'm thinking it won't matter. Please let me know your opinion. Oh yea, one more thing, I guess in order to use this balancer on the tail blades, I could drill a small hole inside of the grip, and put a small screw in to hold the blades pointing outward as they should. I'm a little irritated that I spent nearly 50 bucks on a balancer that isn't for my heli. Hope what I'm doing will be accurate enough, Please offer you veiw if you can, thanks, Steve.

I think what you did will work fine. However, I prefer a scale to do my blade balancing and any fine balancing is done dynamically by trial and error.

What's always worked best for me was to weigh and find the CG of each blade, then strategically add tape until the weight and CG is the same for each.

Hey Steve , I to recently aguired the same balancer and found the same problem with a way around it . with no extra grips to burn . I took the small pin and mounted it in my drill after securing the drill in the vise and milled the pin to fit the grip with a file. {glad it wasn't hollow} I then found the CG , balanced CG accordingly then balanced the blades accordingly . I was very pleased with the results of this balancing method with the grips on . Haven't took the time yet to get it to work for the tail blades . I kind of figured ahead of time before I bought it that it might not be compatable with the Corona blades but there's usualy a way around it . I kind of like your idea for the tail blades , let us know how it works .
In answer to your question about the differance w/the grips , I think the only thing that would be a factor would be the difference w/the weight of the grips , which would be nominal .
I think we made a good investment for this heli and future ones to come

KSJ528 balancer

THanks Lance and Mando. I figured out what I needed to do and I love this balancer. If I put a small bolt on one end the gauge slighty moves from center to the direction of the bolt--thats pretty sensitive to weight. Yea Mando, you filed the pin down to fit, wheras, since I had two grips to spair, I drilled the blade-grip instead, either way it works. My last post I accidently stated that I drilled out the blade part of the grip, but I just left that alone. I need two pins to fit through there like you stated. I also like the CG mark in the center of the scale where you can take the pins out, put the blade down, and find CG. About the tail rotor blades, I found the best thing to do is to just use two very small pieces of cork cut into small blocks. Put the inside top of the tail rotor flush against the inside of the grip (at this point there will be too much play on the bottom for a tight fit)--while doing this, be holding the piece of cork in the other hand against the bottom inside of the blade--then slowly move the blade and cork horizontally until it slightly binds with the grip--push it and the cork will give enough for you to get it on straight--then once even, the cork expands back out for a tight enough fit with the weight of the cork being virtually nothing. Great balancer! later, Steve.
